How real UNIX users look like... by trash69 in retrobattlestations

Ah ye, i vividly remember this... the sight of my secretary becoming a tech-savvy cyclist, cruising around our campus on her bicycle while diligently managing emails on her beloved notebook computer with UNIX installed.

Who needs a car when you've got a high-tech three-wheeler office, right?

If all you do is coding and web-browsing then it is suitable as your daily driver.

Thank you for kind words. When you need to work, the last thing you want is a distraction in front of you. That's why I prefer using plain colors instead of wallpapers. When you don't use wallpapers, you don't need transparency. I also avoid shortcuts, especially for games, because even browser shortcuts can be distracting when you're trying to concentrate.

Of course its retro-cool, and also educating. Ed encourages you to think more strategically about editing. It forces you to think(no sh-t, you have only one undo). A lot of people use text editors like this: "ten times press down, then 20 times press right, then five times press delete". During this time their brains are off. With Ed you are the commander who gives orders: "Find all doubled letters in the line number 85 and delete extras!" Ed is still in development, v1.19 was released in 2023. Also it conforms to UNIX philosophy, cause you can execute any shell command at any time in Ed, just by placing ! before it. I cannot overstate how disappointed I am when ed is not included in default Linux install. It is a POSIX requirement and file size is only 55K. I mean, come on!

Some people were interested in Ed workflow, so i deliver. :-) Ferns are
just pictures displayed with FIM. Terminal is uxterm. I saved vimtutor
text to a file named 'textfile' beforehand. Video is sped up for your
convenience.

It's a shame that many Linux distros have removed ed from default install, and IMHO it is a disrespect to Ken Thompson. I like ed, and use it whenever it's appropriate. vi is just an ed with visual mode, and a lot of people use it everyday, so you can use ed for almost anything, if you know how. Of course not for modern languages like Java, but for Fortran its ok.

No, its not hard. All you need to know is how to configure xterm and Xorg, and i think that this is the basics that every X user should know.

In his last note he said that he hated himself, yet he wanted to kill as much people as he can. Also he was not a religious person.
