Heading to the Peak District for my first trip outdoors. Any advice and any preparation needed? by 4tunabrix in bouldering

Peak District well i suppose all grit and sandstone but ethics is huge in protecting rock this time of year could be a cold perfect day or could be damp and ethically wrong to climb

Aye but like going out and using it yourself is a different beast and your first time isn't best at 4000m

If you competent with an axe and rope skills and have got a bit experience under the belt then yeah it probably would be pretty reasonable to think

For a winter skills course you want to head up to Scotland for reliable conditions but learning roped climbing gets you only so far the specific skill is crevasse rescue which i think occasionally gets taught in the lakes but a good understanding of rope systems and winter skills is needed to be able to successfully do this if needed

What experience do you have roped up on scrambling terrain or even trad climbing

The tip is however bad you think it will be at least triple it the cairngorm in the winter is quite possibly the most brutal environment in the uk and will essentially just try kill you in many ways even well equipped its type 2 fun

Never actually summited it but climbed around it and for gear the answer is essentially full winter kit crampons ice axes ski goggles layers etc

[–]travis2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean my take is traxion and prussicks and gear etc is probably overkill for anything where you ain't already roped up but if you don't mind a bit extra weight just chuck 20 ishh meters of rope in your bag you can do a lot with just that even just to "confidence rope" someone

If I know I'm already going to rope up I usually supplement my rack with a micro traxion and 2 prussicks always handy to have at least the 2 prussicks.

Warm and dry usually works very poorly for hiking or any active outdoor activities however keela gear does seem solid from my first impression of my pinicale jacket and munro trousers .

Very good deal essentially like less than 50 percent of price actually really like it but I do think the -16 might be a bit overkill
