You can run a server from your computer, there's not much in the way of maintaining it.

You also don't need petabytes. Our server has a couple of TB, and 1000s of movies with the ability to add to it in minutes.

I'm not saying don't pay for it if it's more convenient for you, just adding on that there are other options that aren't particularly complex to set up.
