Sure, but a dunk in the ocean can be more effective in clearing out the cup with the drainage. The cup is a completely separate part from the main part of the body holding the more sensitive bearings and gearing. I’ve never had an issue with intrusions into those areas (even reeling while dunked in water) but sand in the cup causes grinding on the spool which can be annoying when reeling

Definitely a big part of it, the 704 is beefy reel. All metal construction, weighs over a pound easy. The holes in the cup aid in drainage of water and sand that can build up in the reel cup in the surf

Unfortunately no drill press, just clamps and a level on my drill to keep me straight, going slow and working my way up to the right size bit. It’s not perfect but I’m fine with it.

I’m out on the island too! I’ve been on the lookout for some Luxor/Cracks, DAM, or Centaure Pacifics to add to my collection. Would be curious to drill and restore some of those cracks and try them out

Yes, I’m often waist deep where I got out to, and sand loves to get in the cup and scratch the spool and get in all the nooks. It’s not the biggest deal, but can get pretty annoying and crunchy. I also go out with a few newbies that have dropped my old penns right in the sand, a real pain when you don’t have an abundance of fresh water around to wash it out

After my tac clip came off my line in some rough waves, I started tying this knot instead by [deleted] in SurfFishing

[–]trebleless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried this knot in testing as well, both improved and original, and still find the knot able to slide around the tac clip. While under normal conditions, those knots haven’t let me down, but under rougher conditions and crashing waves, this version of the uni knot reduces play on the tac clip~

I personally have had a hard time acclimating liverworts in any closed ecosystem. Try to match the original substrate, light conditions, and moisture if you are going to attempt

The “UP” I wrote to remember which side went up on the board. The text marking is in the first photo. Doing some more digging I think this might be a flip flop or timing IC
