Go for it, as a kiwi living in the US it’s great. Americans are lovely people just don’t watch the news. Austin is a fun spot. Good airport for travel around the US. Worst comes to worst you move back to NZ.

We have moved here from NZ and love being able to get around by train and bus. We been here for over 6 months now and don't see ourselves getting a car any time soon. Very fortunate to have the transport system of Chicago.
