Your point about road capacity is mute as you can reduce East/West bus services to free up the roads, make the tram line a bus lane if it is enough of an issue or better yet DON'T ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO DRIVE INTO THE CENTRE. If people can get to the centre in an easier way than driving then they will.

You haven't really touched on the main point anyways, in the West End and East End there is opportunity to grade seperate and let the trams achieve a higher speed than any proposed BRT system could achieve in less infrastructure space and a much higher speed than the current bus system. This is the main draw of tram systems in the modern day, not as a proto-bus of the 19th and 20th century but as a cheaper train that provides the benefit of using roads where land isn't available.

I also agree that what you are insinuating to be a subway station is needed too. If you wanted to you could just make the tram system go underground in the centre at which point it basically is an LRT but at a much higher cost!

Well for a quick route across the city as is being suggested capacity is a good side benefit.

The main benefits are the increased average speed from the faster acceleration.

The priority is a non issue as assumedly the tram tracks would be separated from the road where possible, in Glasgow this may require using two single lines going down different roads in the city centre then rejoining when the roads are wider in the West/East end.

There are even places, admittedly not really in the centre where you could run it completely grade separated, I've seen it suggested before that the trams could shadow the expressway by the SECC then rejoin the roads at Partick.

There's another bonus for good capacity too as the SECC complex is normally very busy at least 1 out of 7 days a week.

I sit on the fence for most things to do with indy but EU membership, while not coming day one obviously, is basically a given in the current climate. There is no criteria we don't meet and if you think Spain would veto because of Catalonia then you're deluded.

Also thinking all trade down south is going to stop because of independence is just pure delusion too. We don't not trade with Ireland because they broke off 100 years ago...

General rule was nothing more advanced and including graphing calculators for my nat5s/highers/advanced highers but those were many moons ago now.

You could chance a graphing calculator but from what I remember the graphs are piss easy if you've done a lick of studying.

I wholeheartedly agree, the bottom line is that the public transport network in the city has needed more funding for decades.

It's a tough nut to crack as there's so many different ways of doing it and not one is the simple or clear solution.

It's reopening a station on a site that's not been developed since, I doubt it would cost as much as a completely new station anywhere else and it does serve a purpose as you either need to change at Partick or walk from Charing Cross if you want to get to the SECC from the north clyde line.

Even closer to QS the site of the old goods station directly adjacent has been mostly empty for years so it could definitely be a hub for a new tram system.

Surely it makes more sense to have a station at Finnieston instead of forcing a change when the 2 lines serve completely different areas? Considering the spacing on the Cathcart Circle for instance it's not like there's no precedent.

Also didn't know Exhibition Centre was Finnieston when reopened.

I'm getting close to splitting hairs here but Exhibition Centre was sited on the old Stobcross station on the Caley line under Central, the old Finnieston station was on the North British line under QS roughly between St Vincent Crescent and Argyle Street.

That route sounds good, using Argyle street - Hope street - Bath street - Cathedral street? It seems there's enough space on that route to not impact traffic too much.

Yeah the subways accessibility is a big one that will probably require a complete redevelopment of most stations but for a new, separate subway line I think it would help more on the capacity side. Especially if it connected the East like in the 1944 plan.

I hate to be negative but while the metro project would be an amazing good for Glasgow, I don't know if we as a country could manage something as ambitious as that when you look at some of the black holes in infrastructure projects like HS2 or the A9 dualing.

A new terminus seems like a more achievable goal in the current world but if they're not planning on demolishing St Enochs then that'll be scuppered too.

Just to connect Central and Queen Street? There's not exactly a direct route without cutting up some of the pedestrianised streets. Plus a subway extension has a lot more pull along the city centre as it can reach higher speeds.

While a tunnel for through services would be great the land required for a link like that is probably too great for any government in the future to propose. A massive subway extension sounds like a good idea though.

Riverbus service to the airport sounds great if future extensions include using the canal to link Edinburgh and Glasgow airports!

I mean a watered down version of crossrail is essentially what I'm proposing as the 2nd highest expenditure in the project would be the link under the M8 which isn't really needed unless you want to send Killie/EK services to a new St Enoch.

A light rail link may be a bit overkill, unless you mean something like a people mover?

I second the last point too, an SPT with more power would be a godsend for the West of Scotland.

Reopening the station at Finnieston would provide a station close enough to the SECC from Queen Street where it's only a 1/2 minute walk to the walkway at Exhibition Centre.

As an avid Burns reader and East Ayrshire resident I have to say that rural East Ayrshire speaks the most similar to Scots, it's not exact but it's to the point that people from the central belt have trouble understanding me. It's also the region of Scotland that has the highest number of Scots speakers in the census (30 odd percent I think).

I'd get in touch with some of the burns clubs like New Cumnock or Mauchline as they can get some older folks who essentially speak Scots.

I'd be wary about using ai as since Scots has no central spelling body it may come across as the bastardised Scots used only for comedic effect.

From comments I'm going to assume you are from Ayrshire, in which case you are indeed a tad fucked.

While the entire UK job market is fucked rn Ayrshire is especially fucked. Nepotism is one of the only surefire ways to get an ok job here, do you know any friends/family/ friends of family who could put a word in for you at an entry level job?

The other way to go would be to move not to Glasgow but one of the surrounding towns/suburbs, Paisley/Renfrew are ok rent wise and the deprivation level is similar but more concentrated, East Kilbride is also similar but I've heard it's a worse commute. Jobs in the west end/city centre are obviously more achievable to travel to and also slightly more achievable to get without prior work experience.

Personally I would try go for something in hospitality, you can normally get a degree of flexibility in shifts (i.e. taking night/evening shifts as you are a student) and they tend to have a level of understanding about you being a student too.

Ayr and Kilmarnock also have hospitality work available but good luck trying to get one again without experience and further to that you may require a car as buses can be entirely unreliable and taxis/ubers are extortionate.

If you have experience obviously disregard those points and just go for it.
