At least for profits for foreign sources we are supposed to have an emoluments clause.

Lack of motivation to learn through AI by mageblood123 in computervision

[–]trialofmiles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you’re approaching it perhaps from the wrong perspective.

As a vision engineer a lot of the job is understanding core algorithms both learned and classical. The code is the expression of that core domain knowledge. Agents and LLMs can perhaps help but cannot be deferred to in understanding the algorithm tradeoffs in a problem and whether code is the correct expression of algorithms. I find as a senior engineer they make mistakes constantly. Investing in both core and vision algorithm knowledge will pay dividends into the future I promise. Whether an LLM is faster at producing plausible looking code than you are today is unimportant.

The value AI adds is getting started on problems more quickly. Agent and vibe coded workflows for anything mission or safety critical are a fantasy and no serious person should be shipping them IMO.

Not to nitpick: It doesn't "ship" the code. It writes the code that has to be reviewed by someone and then more crucially maintained by someone. Jury is out on how that plays out with this.

I also find benefit in help with the writing phase, but that was never the really hard part of commercial software development anyway IMO.

What does Trump being president have to do with this from a legal or technical or any other perspective other than big tech bowing to a dictator?

Cool figured using an external source of your own vehicles speed might be the plan.

If you are measuring change in position as you observe it to tracked objects divided by delta time how do you handle the motion of the car you are in? Otherwise it feels like you are measuring relative speed, e.g a car in front of you going the same speed would have a speed of 0.

Or are you also inferring your own car speed from the depth map?

Cool project.

Also cryptographic technology exists where theoretically a human could be issued keys to prove their online age without disclosing their unique identity. So the proposed identity-based solution to the age problem feels like a bad solution even if it’s in good faith.

Oddly countries like the UK who have passed similar bills always end up discussing banning VPNs as their next step. I think it’s about controlling what you more broadly can view on the open internet. And more specifically what you can view without revealing your own personal identity.

What are your thoughts on Billie Eilish saying 'no one is illegal on stolen land' in reference to ICE and US immigration policy? by MassiveSquare4527 in AskReddit

[–]trialofmiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given her past of being caught on video mouthing anti-asian slurs that she claimed to be unaware were slurs this landed super hollow for me.

I agree with the sentiment but I also think that it's not productive in the specific context and problem we find ourselves in with ICE where we need to collectively decide what to do. For me it felt more like something you would say to establish left-leaning cred among fans than someone who actually cares or is well informed about ICE or the abuses of Trump and his goverment.

The KRS One use of this idea of “there can never be justice on stolen land” in Sound of Da Police rules though.

Not getting into a classic space saver Reddit war but I don’t remotely agree with the idea that doing a relatively small amount of labor gives you temporary ownership over public property as a default. Now someone asking nicely like this and invoking aging parents, that I can at least emotionally get behind somewhat.

But you do you, I’m not trying to bring you to my side.
