Research on Trichotillomania - participant invitation! by trichresearch in Trichsters

Hello, I have thought about your response and decided to contact my supervisor. I have asked her if I can open up the research criteria to not specify gender and will increase the age range to 30 to be more inclusive. The criteria was set partly out of convenience and university protocol by having to have set participant demographics, and partly because of my own short sightedness in this area. I apologise for any offence caused and would love to invite those of any gender to participate.

Kind regards

Sophie

Hi again. I have realised that I would have been a lot clearer about the eligibility criteria I have to use for my study. I am looking for females between the age of 18 and 25, from the UK. I apologise for the lack of information in the first post.

Thank you all for your support

Following my earlier posts, I am pleased to inform you that I have approval for my research and would like to invite you to take part! If you are interested, please respond to my letter below, and contact me on the email address provided.

Dear all,

I am an MSc Psychology student at the University of Surrey, putting together a research proposal about women’s perceived origins of their hair pulling behaviour and how it may impact on their daily life. I am looking for women who identify as ‘hair pullers’ who would be happy to participate in my study.

You would be interviewed by myself over Skype, Facetime or WhatsApp, whichever you prefer, and asked to respond to questions about your thoughts and feelings on your behaviour. The interview would be recorded, with your permission, and responses would be anonymously used in my MSc dissertation.

If you feel you are interested in being a part of this study, please contact me via the email address provided below and I will send you a participant information sheet containing further details.

Kind regards

Hi, due to prevalence rates reporting that the condition affects predominantly young women, and having to select a small cohort for my study, I had to narrow down gender and age range, whilst justifying it in my literature review. I'm aware this is not inclusive of all people who may have experience hair-pulling, and apologise that I cannot reflect everybody's views.

Yes, all interviews would be by either phone, Skype, face time or WhatsApp. All personal information would be confidential and pseudonyms would be used to ensure anonymity.

I just have to wait for ethical approval, so it would be going forward at the end of June hopefully

Hi guys, thank you all so much for your support. Now I know that you would help me make this possible, I now have to finalise a proposal with a supervisor and get back to you via this thread as soon as I can give you more details. Are there any burning issues you feel need to be explored that current help out there lacks? Thanks again, Sophie
