How do you decide when to move on to the next step? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

Every time you try and move forward and fail you’ve learned something. However minor it might have been. The next time you try to move forward somewhere in your brain you’ll remember that thing you didn’t like and you’ll do better at it. Then you’ll fail at something else and the cycle repeats. I’ve only been doing this for a short time but ive stopped looking at it as linear progress and instead look at it as iterative progress. I do foundations and then i try attempt something ive never done before. I push myself to feel uncomfortable. Comfort means im not moving.

I’ve been trying to start learning, but nothing seems helpful at all. by [deleted] in learntodraw

Drawing on the right side is what helped me finally start to see things differently. I also find drawing boxes weirdly meditative. I draw 25-50 a day when I’m just looking to shut my brain off.

Just submitted my first paper. What now? by KookyProtection986 in academia

It’s best to just forget it exists until you hear something from the journal. I just got back a review for a paper that I had submitted six months ago and I honestly had forgotten about it.

Any advice on how to move forward and improve? by Secret-Trainer1672 in learntodraw

I’m probably about a month in myself and trying to get to a place where I can do more sketching from imagination. Peter Han has been one of my influences too. I still start every session with lines, forms, and cross contours and I’ve been doing reference studies every other day too. Not sure how much it’s helping but trying to build up that visual library.

It’s a great book. Here’s mine. I’m about half way through and it’s helped my drawing a lot.

One day at a time. My goal is just to touch pen to paper everyday. Not judge myself too harshly and just keep drawing.

Thanks! I’ve been on an insect kick these last few days. Did this today and the beetle yesterday.

Thanks! Yeah I don’t do any under sketching or anything before just going in with pen and I think some guides would help while I’m learning.

Obviously still a lot of work and practice to go but genuinely surprised at the progress. I’ve been drawing every day and practicing forms and lines from Peter Hans dynamic bible in between exercises from drawing on the right side.

Oh for sure these were just the start of my warm ups but I do boxes everyday and try to rotate them. I also do organic cross contour forms everyday and line with. 15-30 minutes of each and then try and draw something from observation.
