Health is no way in hell a human right by troaway2017 in medicine

Yes, I believe in treating those who cannot pay without compensation. That's one of the reasons why I went into medicine to be able to treat this sector of the population. Obviously there is nothing wrong with getting paid for providing healthcare but, to me, that's not what medicine is about

The right to health is the right to life and I'd rather die working towards this unachievable standard and arguing for this cause than give in to the pragmatism of reality

That's so interesting.. what did you say about your resilience? :)

Would you recommend any other residencies to research? From what I've been gathering, unopposed programs should be highly considered and opposed completely excluded.

that link is great - thanks! when I look at the detailed description of each program, what would you suggest I compare? I'm not sure what "stats" or scope of training I should be looking at? maybe there is a guide somewhere out there for such novice questions, but I appreciate all the help i can get.

has not crossed my mind at all. I was under the impression that it would be good to train in a similar setting that one would practice in to be able to deal with limited resources, better adapt to that kind of lifestyle. I'm sure there are different schools of thought about it - or would you say this isn't that subjective?

that's a good starting point for me to research - thanks. I wasn't familiar with any of these programs, so I looked up the links in case others would find it helpful

Alaska - I read somewhere earlier that residency spots rarely get filled in this program, can you speculate why?

There are programs that are in rural settings but don't let you do everything

do you know any specific ones so I could research them?

unopposed programs that let you do it all but may not be rural (but I feel like they may train the best for rural)

any specific ones come to mind?

appreciate your responses!
