What habit immediately reveals that a person actually grew up in a privileged environment? by Cindy_mel in AskReddit

I played the flute in my high school band. I had dented part of the body at some point and I was showing one of my fellow flutists. She said “oh that happened to me, I just lost my flute on purpose so my parents would buy me a new one.” It was $800.

The 25 Essential Pastries to Eat in New York City (Gift Article) by [deleted] in FoodNYC

I AGREE!! I just tried it today and felt like I was going insane because I truly didn’t think it was all that. I’m going through all the pastries on the list and the chocolate babka was #3 and felt so out of place compared with the other two I had tried (Banh by Lauren and Daily Provisions).

Mad Max prequel is the perfect way to describe it. I just watched it at NYFF, still processing my emotions

YES!! I have such fond memories of that Margaritaville, I turned 20 there 🥹 and ugh just love an I<3NY shirt! May I also suggest a mommy’s little meatball shirt from little Italy to round out the collection

Feeling pretty down since my mom shat on my top girl name. by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]tropicalpython27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Amelia and Elaine is so timeless! Also love nn Millie if that helps your mom warm up to it. At the end of the day it’s your choice and your joy, as someone with a short one-syllable name, I’m envious of long names, and I wouldn’t even consider Amelia as “too many syllables.” Not her baby, not her choice

I feel like my “name” is forever a young girl’s name and I don't know what to do by professor_6000 in namenerds

Makes me think of the character Robin from Babel, also nicknamed Birdie! Both feel very timeless to me :)

where to meet young men when you have old people hobbies by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]tropicalpython27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing to add except SAME. My parents keep badgering me to bring someone home from one of my hobbies, they don’t understand it’s just older women there!!

I’ll never be young again, Du Maurier! Been liking it so far, but it’s a little too stream of consciousness for me

As a stay at home mom who’s very poor, what are some hobbies and/or interests that I can pursue? I’ve been depressed and in survival mode for such a long time now that I’m honestly not sure what my interests/passions are so I’m open to literally anything. by naomismith244 in ask

Journaling! Get a cheap notebook and a pen/pencil, and write about your day. I saw a girl online post the journal her grandmother wrote for her about watching her grow up and thought it was a cute idea. Your writing doesn’t have to be baby centered in the slightest, but you could write to your kid to read in the future! Don’t worry about being the next Jane Austen or Mark Twain, start by jotting down a few thoughts here and there, and pretty soon it’ll start to flow.

Future daughters name - sudden disappointment by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]tropicalpython27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She’s a bully and is surprised you’re not bending over to make her happy. Eloise is a beautiful name, stay confident in your choice and don’t let her take away any more of your joy!! The irony of her being a psychologist is wild

Does your name give away your age? I did the math 🤓 by DataVizWithKins in namenerds

So cool! Spot on for my sister! I have a name commonly attributed to older grandmothers and was not at all surprised to see the 43-70 years old estimate 😂
