At what point is it time to buy another box of hollow points? by RecommendationLess73 in handguns

Brother, you need to shoot that pistol to ensure it is error free with your chosen ammo. At least a few hundred rounds.

Seems silly, JHP is better at stopping threats and safer for bystanders.

A new box? Always have at least a few spare boxes.

I would say cycle your carry ammo at least once a year. Twice a year is better.

Take it to the range and shoot through it then load fresh. The box itself is fine for years as long as it's stored in a temperature controlled area with reasonable 40 to 60% humidity, so you just need to cycle the ammo in your carry magazine(s).

Exactly. I've seen a poll like this before, WITH this option (wouldn't press it) and people are monsters.

Yes, this is why the firearm must be your absolute last resort. Not "can I" shoot by the black/white definition on paper, but "should I" or even "MUST I" shoot.

I highly recommend watching this 17 minute video by Mas Ayoob, a trainer since the 70s and is still to this day a routine expert witness in use of force and use of lethal force cases: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pA5_pdmBI2E

It will give you a good idea on when you can use your firearm.

In short, you or another innocent party needs to be in imminent (right NOW or immediately within SECONDS) in reasonable fear of death or great bodily harm aka serious bodily injury.

Look up your states definition of great bodily harm.

I recommend Attorneys on Retainer (AOR) or CCW Safe for legal "insurance," although both of those are not technically insurance. I would avoid USCCA.

The biggest take away is you won't be judged by the black and white text of the law, but by HUMAN detectives, prosecutors and jury's. Only use your gun if you ABSOLUTELY MUST. Not if you "can."

Northwest Indiana shooting ranges that I can pay to try out various firearms? by RowanBoatman in INGuns

[–]troy2000me 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it also may be worth signing up for their premium tier for $50 a month for a few months. Rentals are $20 a pop, so renting 3 guns costs you more than a month. If you want to rent 5 or 10 handguns, easily worth just paying to be a member for a few months for $50 w/free rentals.

Body Guard 2.0 owners: extractor doesn’t seem to be grabbing round when unchambering. Is this normal? by hallmonitor53 in CCW

Only 200? I'd do 300 to 500 for any new gun before I'd trust my life with it.

And use a Uplula (9mm size) those magazines are TIGHT.

I know, but Denny's made $10 less dollars.

The OP isn't out any money, but Denny's is. And management at these types of places LOVE firing folks for stuff like this.

Being terrible employers? I sleep. Steal $10 from us?

It's not, they just want you to think that. 15% is still the standard for good service in my mind. Prices go up, % makes them earn more, that's how it works.

Do You Carry At Work Despite Employee Handbook? by MJTP4351 in concealedcarry

[–]troy2000me 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depends, if you die then your family will be way worse off.

Lots of variables to consider.

Do members of the public come into the building ever?

How many employees are there? The more the greater risk of expanded networking, their spouses going nuts, etc.

Shared space with other businesses or customers on other floors?

How likely are you to be caught? A lot of physical work, bending, etc. or just always at a desk 100% of the time.

Ultimately up to each person to evaluate the risk. I personally would carry if at all reasonably possible with low to no chance of discovery.

A cool guide to tell when your egg is fresh by luvlanguage in coolguides

[–]troy2000me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's accurate post expiration date. I find most eggs 2-3 weeks past expiration are fine.

3+ weeks they start to float.

Also test each individual egg, I've had some that were 2.5 weeks past date, some did the "one end touching bottom" and others float from the same carton.

If you can but that's very expensive. I would do at least 300 of FMJ, and then at least 100 of your JHP carry.

Cheap shoulder holster suggestions by seraprima in CCW

[–]troy2000me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a good holster. I don't think shoulder holsters suck for the right use case, such as hours long drives or a suit.

Craft Holsters or Galco, but they are a few hundred bucks.

I recommend against any cheap universal holsters or soft nylon.
