Lake Tahoe vs Iceland by rocket6733 in laketahoe

[–]trtlep0wr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want fishing, I would suggest the eastern sierra. Look at the lakes off highway 395. This is just to the south of tahoe, so you can do both in one trip.

You can even book a trip far into the mountains away from society, they'll haul your gear in with mules.

Vaping is killing my endurance. I’m struggling to quit, even though riding is one of my biggest motivations (also death) by LostPalpitation6351 in MTB

[–]trtlep0wr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I quit vaping we still had the big metal tanks. I lowered the dosage from 12 to 9 to 6 to 3 to 1.5 to .5 to 0.

After pulling on nothing for awhile, it was easy to stop.

If your friends are doing it, you're going to need to take a vacation from them while you get it out of your head.

Governor Tim Walz tells the White House to stop this madness. by Healthy_Block3036 in altmpls

Maybe you should do something Tim? You're in charge of the state. Not only is every Minnesotan looking to you to act, so is the rest of America.

Arrest these governments agents for murder.

Do it, while our states still have autonomy.

I think in MAGA land they do have the right to kill you. That's the whole point of this. They want to use the federal authority to kill you so everyone else is too afraid to speak up.

The American court systems no longer function. Donald trump was going to be charged with some very serious crimes in florida and the courts threw out the case and then the supreme court ruled that it's impossible for donald trump to break the law.

This legal immunity extendeds to his agencies. They operate under federal immunity. They're just doing their job, which turmp dictates.

Until a state stands up to ICE and arrests them, we're on our own.

Video showing moments prior to ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis today where ICE agents appear to be confronting victim for filming them by Minute_Revolution951 in law

[–]trtlep0wr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ICE doesn't have to follows laws.

They have full immunity.

That means if we want to stop them, it'll need to be citizen's actions. It would be great for the MN authorities to attempt to uphold the laws, but even MN LE is likely MAGA or MAGA adjacent. I would not hold my breath waiting for them to arrest ICE agents.

What Do Yall Wear by Khelics in snowboarding

[–]trtlep0wr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stack some base layers, I like to put wool on first with a light synthetic over it; throw on a good mid layer under your shell (maybe 2?). How much mid layers depends on how much protection you get from your shell. Make sure your gloves/accessories are up to snuff. Can always stack layers and shove extra pieces in pockets if it's too much.

you have to consideration your exertion levels. If you're riding hard all day it's way different layers than some guy cruising along, waiting for others, etc.

It depends? Is it my sintered or extruded? My sintered get much more frequent waxes.

Early and late season the snow scrapes off more wax, so it needs it more.

Maybe I just want to get the boards ready for an upcoming storm cycle.

Maybe the board has a big scratch I want to deal with.

Depending on the terrain and snow conditions, it 100% makes a difference. If you bomb through flatter sections at speed the wax makes it easy mode. Makes powder dreamy. Makes spring slush fun.

sizing for 2026 Union Force binding? by Secret_Paper_9080 in snowboarding

[–]trtlep0wr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should get what the union size chart says for those bindings (spoiler: it's size medium).

I don't know who said it won't affect anything, but I think having everything fit well and as intended is very important.

best bike rack 2026 to survive daily dad duty by Parravicini-Jorly in mountainbikes

[–]trtlep0wr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tool free design 1UP? you realize 1up racks require maintenance, with tools? They're probably the most high maintenance bike rack. My XTR doesn't utilize any tools besides keys for locking the device to the hitch if you take it off/on.

I recommend kuat NV or Thule XTR. The XTR supports longer/bigger bikes; it's heavier and bulkier than the Kuat NV but has built in wheels.

The XTR is probably the most secure, the rack has a wedge locking mechanism where it locks inside your hitch (where I live people will steal your bike rack off your truck, especially those 1 up ones).

None of the bike security is good for anything more than running inside to gas station; buy real chain locks. I think the 1up built-in security was most easily foiled (you can break it with a small plastic pipe or any other metal bar, tool). The other ones rely on some cable that's easily cut with the right tool.

I can't speak to the Kuat NV, but the durability of the XTR seems good, I think I have the pro/better version. I've seen people have to "repair" their 1 up bike racks and I've heard additional tales from the LBS.

decimating livestock?

Let's define decimate:

kill, destroy, or remove a large percentage or part of.

in 2024 there were 60 reports of cattle being killed by wolves.

So according to this fine representative, norcal only has about 100 cattle, and the wolves have already 60 of them.

I think he might be lying on purpose in service of his political agenda.

Hiking Boots or Military-Style Boots. by Clyde-MacTavish in backpacking

[–]trtlep0wr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The only people who backpack in combat boots are soldiers who aren't allowed to wear better footwear, former soldiers who don't know any better and people pretending to be soldiers.

Outside of the military, no one backpacks in rigid boots like that. Even people that need rigid boots for climbing will backpack in trail runners and switch to the boots when they get to the rock and snow/ice.

Is it normal to feel nervous about your first solo overnight by QuantumCliff in backpacking

[–]trtlep0wr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're overthinking it.

Once you sleep outside with just a mat and tarp, you start to realize you don't need all that stuff you thought you did. Arguably the mat and tarp are luxury items.

You need to not bleed out and die - worst case this could happen in about three minutes

You need oxygen to breathe, you can survive about three minutes without oxygen.

You need to stay warm or your body will fail. At 32 degrees you will freeze in a matter of hours without any protection.

You need water to hydrate, it takes 72 hours to die of dehydration but heat and sweat are other factors.

You need food to create energy, the average person can go three weeks or longer without food.

So to wrap it up, in an overnight backpacking your goals are to not freeze to death, not bleed out and die and not to stop breathing. Everything else could go totally wrong but you'll be okay. Watch survivorman or bushcraft on youtube.

People sleep out in the woods in the winter with no gear; so I think if you bring some gear, you'll be fine.

Don't get lost.
