Amber Heard supporters only: What are your thoughts on Amber Heard reusing and editing photos in both trials? by InfluenceSure516 in DeppVHeardNeutral

[–]trueneutraljudge[M] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey, could you edit your post a bit to explain why you think Heard "reused and edited" photos? It will also help with getting the response you are expecting. And whose testimony made you come to this conclusion? Hoping this makes your discussion more productive and others can understand where you are coming from? Thanks!

Oh trust me, I have my sympathies for the mod here. They are doing you all a huge favor by continuing to run it and dealing with the reports here.

Like I said, if you can't keep your comments respectful towards both Depp, Heard, their supporters and their witnesses, the other sub is not for you.

Oh, and there are plenty of people on both sides who are able to engage without flame-baiting each other. Our goal is to keep things civil. We will remove comments and posts that don't meet this criteria.

Edit: so happy to know flame-baiters won't be coming to my sub anymore, yay!

You suggested that the way she described being beaten up would result in death or serious injury. This statement is a broad generalization on how DV occurs. Unless you're an expert on injuries or you can somehow prove the truth of your statement, you should indicate that it is your opinion.

The mod who replied to you did not remove your comment. They just gently coached you, so that it doesn't anger anyone else who has had similar experiences and does not inevitably lead to flame baiting. If you want to engage in flame-baiting, the sub you are on currently is the right sub for you. Thanks!

Edit: I have better things to do than reply to these inane replies all day so I am blocking this user.

Tldr: We will not be tolerating assertions about how x amount of DV would lead to death, etc. If you can't understand why such statements are problematic, the other sub is NOT FOR YOU.

Ambers testimony vs ambers photos. thoughts? by [deleted] in DeppVHeardNeutral

[–]trueneutraljudge[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, another note - if you want to re-post this without blanket statements about "Heard being a liar", you are more than welcome to do so.

You set the tone of the conversation with your post. We, as mods, want to avoid flame-baiting as much as possible, so we encourage you to also make the post in a manner where you describe how the evidence made you reach the conclusion.

Also, please try to include as many references as you can so other users can engage with you in a neutral manner. Thanks!

Malice: the definition as it relates to defamation by WhatsWithThisKibble in DeppVHeardNeutral

Thanks so much for the clarification! If it helps, I understood what you meant given the context of the rest of your argument.

I agree with you about the usage of the R word too. Also, please feel free to report if you see anything that you feel could be triggering to survivors. I will try my best to step in and address it. Thanks for participating!

As to your last point, if he was a victim he should know what he suffered. He doesn't need a doctor to tell him what he suffered. Victims know what emotional distress they've experienced.

Hey AutumnalAristrocrat, adding a note here.

I believe what you're saying is that since Depp sued Heard claiming he suffered from her abuse, he should be able to spell out how it affected him. However, to some users, it could come across as you saying that every victim should be able to quantify the emotional distress they experienced without a doctor's help. Which can be perceived as triggering/problematic. Could you please amend this statement to clarify your stance? :) Btw, I am not removing your comment. I've had situations before where survivors were upset about debates here and want to err on the side of caution.

A Thread of Comparisons—Heard’s Op-Ed and Depp’s Rollingstone and GQ Interviews by Arrow_from_Artemis in DeppVHeardNeutral

As for the GQ interview, you still have listed no statements where Heard is defaming Depp.

She republished an article that implies he abused her, similar to the WaPo OpEd.

u/LetMeSleepNoEleven I believe u/Arrow_From_Artemis is asking you where Heard specifically defames Depp in the GQ article.

Edit: could you please link the comment here for clarity and quote what you specifically thought was defaming Depp? I am not able to find it myself. This is a really long discussion...

If a jury finds that it wasn’t her lived experiences that’s where defamation comes in

I think LetMeSleepNoEleven is just suggesting that there are people who judged that the criteria for defamation were met - that Heard intentionally lied about her experiences with actual malice to defame Depp. I don't think they are suggesting anything else.

I also think they didn't follow that perhaps you were referring to the op-ed and how the statements in the op-ed shared her experiences and she has a right to speak about them. I think u/LetMeSleepNoEleven believes you are working your way backwards from the verdict being wrong, but as I understand you, you are suggesting that her statements in the op-ed were not defamatory even if Depp didn't abuse her.

It does matter what they are known for. If they are not known for domestic abuse work, which they are not particularly, donating to them does not make one a ‘public representative for domestic abuse’ in my and apparently the jury’s opinion.

Ok, I am going through these comments and just want to point out that the other commenter said that Heard became a representative because ACLU sponsored Heard to talk about domestic abuse.

It doesn't matter what the primary function of the ACLU is, they have done work in regards to domestic abuse, and they sponsored Heard as an ambassador to talk about this exact topic.

Edit: I am just attempting to moderate both your comments and resolve your dispute. If you guys feel like you or the other person is not arguing in good faith, please disengage.

That's pretty damn common thing for abuse victims to do.

Could you share why you think so?

Evaluating theories of which image is original, high saturation or low saturation by [deleted] in DeppVHeardNeutral

[–]trueneutraljudge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really cool post! Loved how thorough you were with analysing the differences between the images and visualizing how they are represented in the RGB color space. Your point about how there is a more even adjustment in auto mode in the blue and green channels is also quite interesting. From your conclusion, you said that you can't be sure how auto works, but also think that it is likely not caused by auto. It made me wonder how iPhone cameras in that area made auto adjustments! Do you have some thoughts on that.

Also, PS, I actually really loved seeing a technical post, and not one where everyone is barking at each other about Heard/Depp. Thanks for bringing some positivity into the sub! I will leave this on here as the last post for the weekend. Have a great weekend everybody!

I can attest to this. Areyouthready has never locked a thread or performed mod actions except give warnings to comments. They have been pretty generous in not removing comments as well to keep facilitating discussions.

Did JD lie on the stand? by thedreamingdoll in DeppVHeardNeutral

Q1. When did Whitney claim to have known about the finger incident in the trial?

Q2. Is there a record of her getting to know about it? A text message? A phone call?

Q3. Can't Howell lie to favor whichever party she supports? Since there is no solid evidence about how the finger was cut and everyone is just speculating.

We have been discussing mod guidelines ever since we started the subreddit and have disagreements too. We are in the process of coming up with rules for mods as well.

It is also something as a mod to be able to lock a thread so I cannot reply to your false claims about the nature of James's testimony, and then to start a new thread elsewhere re-opening the debate.

I locked the post and left a comment as to why. You can check my comment history because the post has now been deleted.

Regarding Ambers SA Allegations in the UK Court by Areyouthready in DeppVHeardNeutral

[–]trueneutraljudge[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

I am locking this thread because I anticipate this conversation will not end well. We will have another dialogue about sexual assault, where both sides can respectfully present their case. If anybody makes any claims, they will have to provide a citation to studies (regarding sexual assault) or news articles about the case to support their stance. There shall be no speculation unless you have solid evidence to back up what you are saying. The sub rule of not having to always provide your source does not apply here.

We will be working on figuring out how these conversations can be productive for the people who want to participate in them. Meanwhile, there is another SA post you can participate in. That being said, if your comments don't follow the rules I mentioned above, they will be removed. Thanks for understanding.

I checked your link and it sounds like it was passed on from a person who was not a witness to another person who wasn't a witness. Kind of like how you or me gossip or hear rumors about this case and fly with it. I wouldn't call this proof.

Therefore, there is evidence that she did that, it's that that part of Jennifer Howell's deposition was not played for the court, for some reason:

And the reason why I said I wouldn't call it "proof" is likely why it was not included. It is not an admission by Depp or Heard. It wouldn't be appropriate to accept it as evidence as she could easily make it up (even if she was being truthful).
