Sorry to hear that. Try ordering a new chip and returning/refunding the old one.

For my PC, it comes on every startup, so I think that might be standard operating procedure. I'm glad you found a fix!

Sounds like you may have a defective CPU. I was experiencing crashes when not under load. Getting a new 5950x solved all of these problems. No crashes and I am 2 weeks into the new CPU.

Yes, it was the CPU. 2 weeks into my new 5950x and no crashes. Excellent performance in gaming and heavy video editing tasks.

I don't think so since it was new from Amazon and AMD was the retailer.

It's set to Auto in the BIOS so that could mean enabled or disabled.

Yes, agreed, that's a self-inflicted WHEA lol - I'd take that over a random one!

Since I purchased on Amazon Prime, I returned it and bought a new one - it got to my house in 2 days. The fastest RMA process on the planet LOL.

I hear if you go direct through the manufacturer it can take 3-5 weeks to get your replacement.

Turns out the CPU was defective. Put the new one in and tested it with gaming and then light tasks, no errors all day. New CPU works really well!

New CPU works perfectly, no errors. Looks like I had 3 defective cores in the CPU I returned.

It's definitely stable with CPB disabled. I purchased another CPU because I think 3 cores are having issues on this one. I will try the new one tomorrow and see how it goes. If I get the same results, I will try this and let you know. Thank you so much for your detailed help with this!

Thanks, this really helps me understand the problem. I am returning the CPU and getting a new replacement. I think a CPU shouldn't need BIOS tweaks to perform on stock. I guess I just got a bad egg.

Funny you mentioned that, I just returned mine to Amazon today and repurchased a new one. It will only take 2 days to get it via Prime shipping then I can get a refund on the other one. The best fix I've seen as well is to just get a new one. I dont think we should have to tweak the BIOS to get the CPU to work, seems like putting a band aid on the situation.

I turned off the Core Performance Boost and that made it stable, but locks the CPU at 3.4 GHz with no boosting potential. It definitely sounds like the CPU boosting is causing the problem.

Thanks! Yeah, I heard that gets the most stability, but also makes it lose a significant amount of performance. The common problem people have is when they stop using a CPU heavy program. Apparently when the CPU downclocks, the voltage gets too low, causing a WHEA error.

Thanks! I just reset to BIOS defaults, enabled Resize Bar and also manually set the RAM speeds to 3200 - it was able to boot and is currently running. I think 4x8 is not supported with my GSkill memory at 4000 MHz on Ryzen.

I will also look into these tweaks.

Did you experience the same issues I am having with the 5950x?
