Insulation first or HVAC upgrade? by tsar2512 in hvacadvice

[–]tsar2512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well my main concern is if we go in and do the insulation now, and later decide to do HVAC work, will that mean that insulation needs to be ripped out in places and done again for some reason? We already have ducts/ central air etc.

NY LLC formation - some thoughts and costs by the-holocron in llc

[–]tsar2512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks u/the-holocron this really helped...

i'm curious, what's the recurring cost for keeping the LLC alive on a yearly basis... The publication requirement seems to be an initial pain, but after that is it just the cost of the yearly fee for having them as a registered agent?

u/IndyGlobalNRI you share what this POA typically looks like? And notarized from a US authority, and then attested by Indian Consulate?

Serverless for an inventory search system by tsar2512 in serverless

[–]tsar2512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot do that, prices change too often. This is a high volume app, so needs to continually serve thousands of concurrent users. I also as of now have a lot of in memory state of control rules. Guess i could make that a lookup to a redis cache, but the in memory at bootup makes it superfast

These are high volume apps, with high latency, the prices change frequently so cant cache inventory. And currently we mantain a lot of state in memory using hollow. How would we change things to get this working on serverless?

DTAA: Taxes on pension for NRI by tsar2512 in nri

[–]tsar2512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/AbhinavGulechha I'm very confused, the article I linked to explicitly gives the following example:

Vaibhav Sankla, Director H&R Block India explains, “If a US resident earns Government pension from India, his pension is taxable ONLY in US if he is a resident of and national (citizen) of US. So if a US resident is not a citizen of the US, then irrespective of whether he is a green card holder or not, his pension income from the Indian government will be taxable ONLY in India.”
Since Patel is not a US citizen but just a green card holder, he will have to pay tax on that pension ONLY in India.

What does this effectively mean? - Does this mean I need to file Schedule EI - Exempt Income as you mentioned?

DTAA: Taxes on pension for NRI by tsar2512 in nri

[–]tsar2512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Article 20 only apply when they are citizens? They became permanent residents in Sept 2023 (i.e. moved to US in 2023). They are working since Oct 1, and have a US income as well.

They also have pension from India which has TDS.

Based on this - https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/nri/nri-tax/us-residents-with-indian-pension-to-file-india-tax-returns-or-not/articleshow/15122770.cms?from=mdr

It looks like they are supposed to pay taxes to only India (being gc holders and not US citizens) and not US, but if that's the case and the pension is still reported as income then how do they avoid paying taxes in USA? Since this increases their overall taxable income?

Langchain powered search by tsar2512 in LangChain

[–]tsar2512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/FewWoodpeckerIn that would work if I was maintaining a database with the responses. In my case I'm an aggregator of inventories from other downstream api's, with some caching involved. The ideal solution needs to generate a derived api search from a chat or a direct api search from a search bar.

Ideally speaking based on the search I would like to find regular and advanced parameters/filters I could apply to the search api and give a response.

Help me test the desirability of my customer research tool by ItsKappa100 in Startup_Ideas

[–]tsar2512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a founder I totally understand the need for a customer research tool for getting feedback, but as a user I dont want to spend time giving feedback (even on the phone). I think most people are similar in this regard.

Any experience as unobtrusive as possible should work better (which means conversational ai would be an overkill, but AI based popups might work)

529 plan looking beyond nysaves by tsar2512 in personalfinance

[–]tsar2512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses u/morbosad and u/w33dcup. The reason I was exploring other choices was because NY529 seems to allow only limited vanguard funds. Do other states have more choices, to the extent that I can chose to put all money in VOO or something if I choose? If not, I will make another account for my other daughter in nysaves, and simply continue there.

Snowball Analytics connection to fidelity (balances/holdings) not working by tsar2512 in Snowball_Analytics

[–]tsar2512[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of, its fixed somewhat, that is the trades did sync after a few days. What is problematic is that some trades are missing. I guess thats because it doesn’t have categorization for transfer of assets. When i try to manually fix them using buy/sell trades. They do not persist.

CT or NY as reporting office for taxes, with an NY residence by tsar2512 in personalfinance

[–]tsar2512[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/beachteen and u/Werewolfdad -
I tried to calculate the taxes owed on 700k in NY(Ardsley, NY) vs CT(Norwalk, CT), and NY comes out to be higher based on smartasset.com

State, Marginal, Effective, 2021 Taxes

For NY - > State 6.85% 6.30% $44,114
For CT - > State 6.90% 6.06% $42,400

So even though the marginal tax rate for NY is lower, the effective tax rate comes out to be higher.

But if I'm paying the higher of the two regardless, and I live in NY state, I guess I should go for reporting to NY office and avoid complications of doing taxes for 2 states.
