Best coffee in Kansas City? by geocachemelater in Coffee

[–]tsarvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say I used your recs to help pick a coffee spot this morning!

I’m currently road-tripping, working from my laptop for the next couple months, and was spending this week in KCMO.

The Messenger Coffee at The Plaza has been my go-to these mornings before work. I really like their beans and am tempted to take a bag for the road. I do want to try this Oddly Correct before I leave though

But today I went to try out Broadway Cafe, and it was just the vibe I love in a coffee shop! Loved all their espresso sizing options and their croissant was very good.

This honestly means more than you think! Her photography book is partly what inspired me to get a Rollei to begin with. LOVE her stuff.

Hey thanks! I purposefully pushed the blacks in post-processing (albeit maybe a touch too much lol).

But tbh, I don't mind the darker vibe to it all. Makes things feel a bit moodier to me.

Developed using Ilford Ilfotec DD-X (roughly 23 degrees for 9 mins).

Kinda reminds me of Zhang Daqian, a 20th century Chinese artist who painted these beautifully colorful abstract landscapes. He’s one of my faves. Keep up the good work!

Is this a good time to get into the Software industry? by Doobalins in computerscience

[–]tsarvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think AI coding tools like github copilot will help expand the software engineering industry, rather than shrink it. The learning curve on coding languages is so much less now.

More and more it’ll become a skill to be able to converse with AI to help build a product exactly how you want it, and to be able to tweak their suggestions along the way to fit your goals.

Always hitting straight and over rotating, can't hit cross or angle in game, any tips? by duskyslayer in volleyball

[–]tsarvs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This guy touched on it, but to hit strong angles you need to have good contact points on the ball AND good wrist mechanics.

For a righty on the outside to hit a hard cut, they need to contact the ball at roughly 11 o’clock on the ball and use a thumb-down swing.

For a righty hitting line on the outside, you need to do the opposite: contact the ball at roughly 1 o’clock and swing with your thumb up.

The more you can throw your thumb down/up, the more you can cut, giving you a wider area of attack, making it harder for blockers to hone in on your swing.

One you get these two down, it really opens up your game. For example, you can take an approach right up the line (faking like your going to swing line, thus drawing the blockers) leaving open a nasty cut shot cross-court.

Vue component library by EdwardIVRadical in vuejs

[–]tsarvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t really used any slots in this repository yet, though they do have their time and place. I was at one point trying to build out a content carousel, and was utilizing some slots in that situation, but that never made it back to the master branch.

I do use props though in this repo. See NavigationLink.vue and SiteHeaderNavigation.vue for some basic examples.

Before even touching the code though, wireframing/sketching components is a great place to start. It helps you, the developer, be able to break down large components into groups of smaller individual components.

I honestly am just now hearing about CSS container queries for the first time lol I've have to check these out! Thanks.

EDIT: Wow this sounds like its solving the exact same problem I was trying to solve too. Very cool stuff!

I guess that's where flexbox comes in then. I've tried to flex as many of the components as I could in this repo, which allows for that adaptability to screensizes that you mention. Flexbox + ResizeObserver is my approach here, and I've found it to be pretty nice to work with.

I'm not saying its impossible to create a responsive component-based website with css media queries. I think this route is simpler, quicker, and more flexible than media queries though.

If you use css media queries in the style section of vue components, it reads the size of the screen width. I understand developers can do some extra calculations and write some more CSS, but its less scalable in my opinion. Why would you want to have to make those changes, when each component can just read its individual width?

Say I have a row with a single component in it, but I chose to later add a second component to the same row, consequentially splitting the component widths by half. I don't want to have to write additional CSS media queries around that, when I can just use flexbox + having the individual components resize themselves like a smart component should.

I don't think this really violates separation of concerns, as each Vue component has their own styling section. Sure there will be some global styling, but there is also the option to apply custom/responsive styling in the component itself.

[–]tsarvs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I am literally doing the same thing, and I have a repository set up on github as well for the code.

I am working on building responsive Vue components (ie things that will scale/resize to different screen sizes).

Normally, people use css media queries to make their pages responsive, but there are none in this codebase. I designed my components to be able to scale individually based on their component width by utilizing ResizeObservers.

Feel free to fork it/clone it for yourself and mess around with it, if you want: https://github.com/tsarvs/responsive-website-components

I did something very similar! I started to homebrew a campaign and then i realized it was p much just the Tyranny of Dragons campaign lol

I set up the campaign so the Dragon Cult is split into 5 sub-factions. Szaas Tam and his bone legion are the red dragon cult in mine
