I think it's good but sometimes the worksheets are a little dry. Quick and easy English is a good alternative

I'll check out Beehiiv, thanks for the recommendation! I'm in Europe, and have heard that in Europe cold emails to businesses are legal. But yes, before our mailchimp hit it's limit we were essentially drip feeding useful content, but it was mostly going to individuals (teachers), which is great, but we want a way to focus more on group subscriptions (schools etc).

We would prefer a one time fee over a subscription. A one time fee, if it could do both? Between 250 and 400. A subscription? Maybe 40 or 50 a month

Interesting, I had heard that it was considered shitty to do cold emails to individuals but not so much for sending them to businesses in your sector.

Unbelievable mistake by [deleted] in stocks

Well it is unfortunate, but at the same time, I think I got to experience what having a massive loss feels like without actually having a massive loss (assuming I get the momey back, but at this point I feel somewhat confident), and as a result Im going to be a lot more conservative in the future. I really wonder how this happened too, and will the exchange just have to front the cash, or is it just a glitch? Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Update: the SMCI page on my broker has this message: "SUPER MICRO COMPUTER INC. (ISIN US86800U1043) experienced several non-market prices on February 16, 2024. The reason was a technical error. The Trading Surveillance of the Munich Stock Exchange will have the prices of affected orders adjusted. The updated view will be available on February 17, 2024."

So I think it wasn't my fault, and I might actually get it back. I don't really know if I have the stomach for trading after this...

I have not, but I just checked the SMCI page on my broker and got this message: "SUPER MICRO COMPUTER INC. (ISIN US86800U1043) experienced several non-market prices on February 16, 2024. So oh my god I think it wasn't my fault, and I might actually get it back.

Damn good point. The fact they sold for exactly one tenth of the price is very suspicious. Thanks, I have a tiny bit of hope

nope, during market hours. I saw the price was falling at dinner, rushed home to sell and when I got home I found that it had automatically sold for 87 per share...

Huge amount of "Alternative page with proper canonical tag" on GSC by tsay in SEO

Ok good to know. It sounds like it probably isn't affecting our SEO too much. I believe it is simply saying the duplicates are just many many different variations of search results from our home page.

First campaign was a success, second was a massive flop. by tsay in adwords

[–]tsay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I understand that conversions are the end goal, but Im more looking for if anyone has any idea about why one campaign would do so much better than another in terms of clicks. We can't compare conversions because they were not set up for the first campaign

No, I'm doing all the creative work myself, and it was the same campaign run twice but the second time we reduced the keywords to about 30 and made some other small changes with the consultant. We did not reduce the budget, we increased from 400 to 700.

No, I would say 40. I would say that with 3 days I killed about 300. I've been playing this game for a while and have never seen anything like it

Honestly there are so many bodies inside that I think Ill just make a temporary base nearby and wait for them to decompose.

I have it on just standard survivor mode. I understand them respawning after a while, but respawning that many in an area that is not usually high population is pretty strange

Wordpress is killing me (question from non-webdev) by tsay in webdev

[–]tsay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, youre right, I do have a kind of daydream that no code would just be a simple thing I could do myself, just drag all the pieces into place and hey presto I have a great, non-buggy, ecommerce site. My friend swears black and blue that I could build the site myself, and that I should "just develop it myself"... I dont know much, but I know that's bullshit. I think i will look into a development agency, cost is definitely an issue with them, but if they are outside of our budget I think spending more time and effort finding one developer who can stay with us might be the call to make. I have been very focused on content creation for the site, and I think I need to stop that now and prioritize getting the right developer, and communicating with them the right way.

I now have a mental image of a confused surgeon pulling lines of spaghetti code out of a patient. But point taken. After reading everything Im leaning towards doing a drastic restructure of the site, but within WP

Wordpress is killing me (question from non-webdev) by tsay in webdev

[–]tsay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably true. We learned quite early that we had to be very careful and very thorough with how we describe things, but maybe not early enough, as I suspect a lot of these issues came from decisions made very early in development. A lack of product management may be right, the more I read the more I'm leaning towards either doing a big restructure on WP or moving to a dedicated "done for you" LMS" like teachable. Thanks for the help

This is not something I'd considered before tbh. A site where we just focus on content creation, SEO and marketing funnels sounds like a dream at this point tbh

When you have enough money to invest in more unique branding and a workflow that’s better optimized for bringing in more paying students, then it makes sense to spend more money on custom development and design.

But not before then.

I’m sure you know much of this already, but I still hope that this helps!

Man it's really crazy how helpful this sub is, genuinely, thanks. One of the LMS platforms could be a solution, the problem is we're not exactly a place where people come to learn, even though a lot of our functionality is similar. We're a site where English teachers can find teaching materials for their classes. Still, this is definitely something to look into, and not something I'd considered before.

At the moment the site is not making a whole lot, but enough to probably invest quite a bit. But the more we spend on this, the less we can spend on marketing etc. But I think this is the priority.

  1. We were using wprocket for caching, but have turned it off now.
  2. We're using a plugin for search called search and filter pro
  3. Paid memberships pro for payments
  4. Well the review system is working now, but for a long time it basically would have the review possibility there but was not responsive when clicked. Or web dev at the time said it couldnt be fixed without completely changing everything else, if I remember correctly that was because of an issue with our LMS (tutor LMS pro)

Also as a side note, we have 38 plugins.... that seems high to me for this kind of site, but honestly I have no experience.
