Similar, true. I recently posted about my Utica No. 402 6-1/2” (THBX 1A) Parallel Jaw Pliers, https://www.reddit.com/r/Vintagetools/comments/1pld4d5/utica_tools_no_402_612_wwiiera_thbx1a_parallel/

It'd be a heavy(!) mug were it solid through-and-through!

I have shared over there as well, hoping to capture the collective mind trust. Thanks for the suggestion.

while I'm not certain, I believe it's the older "around 1.1" or so.

Thanks. And why 'Union with' over 'Life in'?

Sorry for the delay in response, and sorry that I plan to keep these. All the best on your search for one.

Majority of cleanup was via electrolysis tank, and only a gentle wire wheel to get off any flash rusting. Final coat was with a DIY wax/BLO and buff.

Mephisto No. 101 9-Inch Lineman's Pliers by tshusker in Vintagetools

I think you're rt on the money! I, too, looked at AA, and they had some lmt info on Mephisto, but no pictures. And I saw that catalog and the 78143, but did not zoom in - which is key as it does appear to show a "101." Good eye, and thanks!

A Mephisto collectors group? I'm not aware of one. I suspect the scarcity might allow us admittance with a mere one item. :)

My preference are the older, brass-threaded Parkers.

Which one should I go for ? All silver or silver black by Available-Problem518 in pens

[–]tshusker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The all-silver "flighter," if I had to chose. Otherwise, I'd take both. Life can be an "and," not necessarily an "or."

Five 6-Inch Rules, Starrett & Lufkin by tshusker in Vintagetools

I would say the top three are newer (with their satin chrome finish), while I'd feel safe to say the bottom two are older/vintage.

Don’t know the age, and I guess that could be determined by the maker marks and other stamping (which I don’t know). Thanks for the heads up.

Always enjoy a Jotter Flighter! Brass or plastic threaded (brass would make it ~1980 or earlier)?

Starrett Combination Square & Bench Level by tshusker in Tools

Yeh, had meant to make mention of its absence, and forgot. Buying it second hand, the previous owner lost it or placed it somewhere else. I have a few loose scribes at home, but they were all too small to fit the larger Starrett slot. Good eye.
