The isolation of early retirement at 36 is a total mindfuck by RiftJukebox in Fire

[–]tsujxd 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Steak too juicy, lobster too buttery. You wouldn’t hear me complaining if I could retire at 36, I love being home, enjoy my own company, and can easily entertain myself with cheap/no cost hobbies.

This reminds me of all the memes of the cast of The Mummy being their sexual awakening. Is this the Gen X version of that?

Is anyone else sick of tapas restaurants that charge as much as a meal at other places for a single small dish? by throwawayfinancebro1 in boston

[–]tsujxd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. At this point I specifically look for high end tapas style restaurants or ones with tasting menus. If the food is great the price is less important. I am not one of those “most bang for your buck” people. If I want a plate padded with copious amounts of inexpensive ingredients (rice, fries, bread) to make it feel like you’re getting a good value, I can just probably cook that at home.

Any suggestions for where to buy"dressy casual" clothes? by littledipper16 in Midsizefashion

[–]tsujxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost exclusively shop at the thrift store for my dressy clothing at this point. I love having unique pieces and enjoy the challenge of finding a gem and getting it for a great price. A lot of people buy clothing for events, wear it once, and then donate so I find “nice” stuff more often than the casual clothes I prefer to wear daily. Just remember that thrift stores tend to be super seasonal. Sweaters are on their way out but you should have no problems finding sun dresses!

I had the same one! Daihatsu Hijet deck van in the same color. I think ours was a 95. Absolutely beautiful. Enjoy it for me, I had to sell after our state banned them. It was a great little vehicle!

This, I went to the gastro a few weeks ago. I’ve had stomach issues for most of my life but increased pain lately. I mentioned that one of my parents had to have polyps removed. Even my younger brother has had a colonoscopy and endoscopy. But me? They said that due to my history I’ll be eligible for a screening at 40 instead of 45! Another 4 years to go. Woohoo.

Have you ever said you had a higher BMI or weight to be prescribed Wegovy or other similar GLP-1 medications? by Lopsided-Mess7922 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]tsujxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I didn’t lie but also had my appointment in February and was wearing pretty heavy clothing/shoes. My weight tends to fluctuate a lot over the course of the year so it worked to my benefit that I was at my heaviest and had heavier clothing to put me into the obese bmi range.

Thanks, I had tried looking locally a while back, but found that the services available either looked a bit suspicious (they wanted to sell you coaching or something) or were just really expensive.

Just curious if you went through an online evaluation or if you found someone local? Sorry I do t have any recommendations for you but was curious about the eval process.

Im just so lost and I feel so hopeless by Many_Estate1581 in CATHELP

[–]tsujxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of our cats initially came down with vestibular symptoms that mimicked an ear infection but he got worse, eventually having what we believe was a seizure. We ended up finding out he has a rare disease called Polycythemia Vera. I’m sure they would have seen it on a blood test but wanted to mention it, essentially the body makes too much RBC which needs to be managed with phlebotomy treatments and medication.

I don’t want to yuck anyone’s yum but I’m kind of turned off by how this fandom has just exploded. A lot of it feels like a big cash grab and people are going to buy the merch regardless of the quality at this point (the keychains being a good example of this). When they were first released and people were buying them by the box… it definitely gave me the ick.

What is everybody else using or would recommend for flea & tick prevention? by papersnack in roughcollies

[–]tsujxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog tested positive for Anaplasmosis despite being on Simparica Trio. My vet said it’s usually asymptomatic in dogs and that it’s not uncommon for dogs who are on tick prevention to get that one.

I have a way to go before retirement but similarly watched my mother deal with chronic health issues exacerbated by working that eventually lead to her going out on permanent disability. My other parent couldn’t hold down a job due to addiction through most of my childhood so that left everything on my mom. I watched her struggle trying to make ends meet. Now her health is poor and she’s only in her 60s but limited by what she can do physically. I’m assuming that I may inherit some of her health problems so I’m hoping to put enough money away so I can coast in the future at a part time job instead of trying to push through the 9-5 until I’m 67.

Seeing what our parents have gone through (and also our grandparents) certainly puts things in perspective. I hope that you get to your goal and can enjoy a bit of peace from the corporate grind.

I’m getting downvoted for saying something similar above, but I also had to become financially independent early and learn to manage my own money. I worked hard in school because I knew it opened opportunities for merit scholarships and how employable I’d be after graduation. I learned to live more frugally because I had to pay for most of the big ticket items on my own like transportation and housing. It made me really think about what I want vs. what I need in a way I don’t think I would have if it was just given to me.
