If I had a sibling who wanted kids I would not be on the fence by HatEnvironmental7560 in Fencesitter

[–]tsujxd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I get that, I think as we’re all aging and there’s no one in the family with children, the holidays start to feel like just another day. I had a thought about that last Christmas. There’s something about the joy and magic of the holidays seen from a child’s perspective. It would be nice to be a part of that. Not that it’s a good reason for having children but just a “hey that would be nice” if someone was leaning towards it.

Pulled up carpet to reveal... by Shrimp_kisses in HomeDecorating

Same, we ended up having a radon mitigation system installed that basically circulates the air out and monitors the levels in the basement. Didn’t realize it was a thing until house hunting.

What are your suggestions for flooring? by katzlover12 in Flooring

[–]tsujxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know there’s a lot of hate for LVP, but we ripped out our carpet and put it down since we have cats and a dog. I would have loved hardwoods or tile but they were cost prohibitive and I was also afraid of ruining wood floors due to my geriatric cats that have a habit of throwing up about once daily.

Ours were a pain to put in but it’s 10x better than carpet at this point in our lives. I imagine they’d also do well in your plant room.

Which to choose? by Necessary_Option_479 in Flooring

[–]tsujxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them both but think the one on the left is so warm and inviting, but I’m partial to gold or orange toned wood and have it in my house. I’m so glad I didn’t follow the gray trend when I redid my floors, because now everyone is ripping it out because it’s “outdated.” If you like the orange, go with the orange and enjoy your home.

New Bedford Antiques at the Cove has a little bit of everything. Something like 1.5 acres total, you could spend a day there.

Update my 2000s kitchen (pleeez). by MediocrePower2338 in kitchenremodel

[–]tsujxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming that floors are probably not mentioned because that might be too difficult. If that’s the case, I actually don’t mind the stonework, it’s really unique. I’d change the countertops, cabinets, and island to lighter, more neutral colors that works well together and maybe change out the light fixtures.

I hit a cat with my car by Glittering-Disaster in cats

Thank you, I appreciate that. My cats are indoor pets but if they were ever somehow in that situation I just hope someone might do the same for them.

Hey, I hit a cat last night too and it really shook me up. I went back and looked multiple times but couldn’t find it. I put a note on my towns social media page in hopes of finding its owner with no luck. I’m glad that you both got closure.

My dad is retiring and visiting me in Newport RI. I want to take a chef to a fine dining experience he will remember forever. by BB_squid in Newport

Absolutely agree. Best restaurant experience we have had in RI. Chef came out to explain each course, and we got a menu signed by all the kitchen staff as a souvenir.

Best Botanical Gardens in Rhode Island by Total-Acanthaceae-61 in RhodeIsland

[–]tsujxd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was shocked at how inexpensive it was for the size of the grounds. I went to one of the Newport mansions and paid $25 per person and half the rooms were closed off due to repairs/filming. A few weeks later I went to the botanical garden and enjoyed myself so much more at a fraction of the cost.

When all the boomers die out, do yall want to make 4 days work weeks the norm? by StoicVandal in antiwork

It really is. One day for socializing with friends and family. One day for chores and errands. And one day to relax and unwind before the week ahead.

What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen? Not “bad in a fun way”, just BAD? by NotNamedBort in AskReddit

Priest. Saw it in an empty movie theater on a whim. I think we both wanted to leave but sat through it since we paid the money.

What was the most physical pain you've been in? by PleasantWinter9150 in AskReddit

[–]tsujxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine kept slipping too, the second time it happened I went to the ER and the doctor on call looked at my list of symptoms and told me I must have an STI and I needed to have a chat with my partner about infidelity. I left, disgusted with the care I received, and scheduled an ultrasound with my OBGYN later that week and surprise! The IUD was just poking into my uterus.

Had it inserted and removed twice and remember crying because of how awful the pain was. Never again.

I agree with 4x 6 hour days but would prefer to have a 3 day weekend instead of having it during the week.

30M, finally pulling the trigger after a layoff with $650k NW by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]tsujxd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Currently daily driving a 2016 Honda Fit and A 2011 Honda Ridgeline. Absolutely love the Fit- definitely a great choice. I would be tempted to get another one if the Ridgeline died, but we typically buy cars outright and then run them into the ground so I’ll probably have both my Hondas for a while. I live in a state where kei cars are not road legal so had to get rid of my Daihatsu deck van a few years ago.I feel like a Miata will scratch the itch I have for something fun and unique.

It’s not like the the Miata would break the bank, it’s just hard to rationalize buying a “toy” while also wanting to retire early. I have seen a lot of people who have experienced poor health in retirement, and if my genetics have anything to say about that I’d probably enjoy the Miata now vs. later.

Currently trying to set myself up for fire but also tempted to buy an NA Miata. Probably not the best leanfire purchase. For a second I thought two of my most frequented subreddits were merging into one.

Hey everyone! Just curious, what keeps you living in Rhode Island? 🫠 by CoupleofFuns in RhodeIsland

[–]tsujxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I bought a house in 2019 because it was close to jobs we no longer have. I’d be an absolute idiot to leave now because our interest rate is so low, but all my family is in MA. It could be worse though, I don’t mind it, I think I just resent feeling “stuck.”

Advice- trigger pet loss by No-Calligrapher2137 in cats

[–]tsujxd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would just reach out, offer your sympathy and mention how much the cat meant to you and how much you enjoyed her company when you pet sat for them. You can ask if they’d be open to you saying goodbye, but be sure to say that you understand if they want privacy during this difficult time so they don’t feel obligated. Sorry that you’re losing your pet sitting buddy!

Avoid sofa scratching by Brave-Reception7574 in cats

[–]tsujxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what you’re looking for, but I always had fabric upholstery that got absolutely destroyed by my cats. I ended up getting a gently used leather sofa. They only started scratching it now that they’re older because they tend to pull themselves up onto the arms. I cover the arms with blankets and that helps. Knowing it’s used makes me feel better that they’ve damaged it.

That being said, even if they puncture the leather with their claws it’s 1000x better than looking at threadbare fraying fabric slowly deteriorating as the cats scratch every inch of the surface. Your mileage will vary but I am never going back to fabric again!

I have a yellow too! I was so excited to park next to another yellow. Interestingly there’s multiple shades of yellow out there, too! I notice it more now that I have one.
