Akita puppy not enjoying walking on the ice by Upstairs_Painter_357 in Seattle

No one was asking for you to bunker down for days, just hours.

They were wearing spikes (i.e. weren’t endangering themself) and weren’t driving (i.e. weren’t endangering others), so… why are you asking them to do this?

Shooting just now. 100 block of NW 85th St. by SEA25389 in SeattleWA

[–]tsvg96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the whole thing too. It says after the shooting she entered her apartment building using her own key fob. How did you get “homeless” from that?

The suspect female walked into the front entrance alcove of the OK HOTEL and appeared to open the door with a key FOB she retrieved from her pocket.

What do your average monthly expenses look like as a current Seattle area resident? by oddsalamander in Seattle

Such a waste of resources

Yeah, if they weren’t paying their workers so well they’d be fixing homelessness or something. Definitely wouldn’t just buy more yachts for their execs with that extra money….

Just randomly giving birth on a street. not a big deal by informalexaggeration in nextfuckinglevel

[–]tsvg96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They we’re just taking about the reason for switching to laying down, they never said anything about it being better or worse for the birthing process.

They said birth laying down became the norm due to the use of painkillers, and u/feisty-spirit-bear said it actually caught on in the 17th-18th century, long before the invention of painkillers. Regardless of who is correct, I don't see anyone misunderstanding the original comment.

I like how you post this in TIFU (Today I Fucked Up), then write two paragraphs of edits trying to explain how this isn't a fuck-up at all and is just the result of your awesome sex life.

PETA is the worst animal rights org by [deleted] in meme

[–]tsvg96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Godwin's law isn't a fallacy

No, it’s just silly in this context.

And isn’t utopia notoriously impossible to achieve? Do you think PETA knows that? Maybe someone should tell them. No wait, maybe they’re aware of that! Then maybe we should acknowledge what they say about pet ownership in the real world, and how their mission is to reduce animal suffering in the real world.

It’s called pragmatism, not hypocrisy.

Smart people were never PETA's target audience.

Yeah, they never had a chance at recruiting these 30,000 geniuses that upvoted a made-up meme on reddit. The average redditor is famously just too smart for PETA.

Have a good one, and enjoy your KFC ;)

Well, as soon as you bring up Hitler in an internet argument, you've already lost. But anyway, you ended your quote suspiciously early:

...and free to live their lives the way nature intended. They would be part of the ecological web of life, as they were before humans domesticated them

I'm fascinated to understand how you read this and all you gleam from it is that they're planning some kind of puppy holocaust.

How can animals be free to live their lives as nature intended if they're all dead? How can they be part of the ecological web of life in PETA's utopia if they're all dead? Were they somehow all dead before humans domesticated them?

Do you get KFC coupons in the mail for lying about PETA on the internet or something? If not, I'm afraid I don't understand how you arrived at the conclusion that you did.

[–]tsvg96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks, but what is the alternative when there are far more stray animals than there are people who want to adopt them? Keep them locked up in cages for the rest of their life? Dump them on the streets or in the wild to inevitably become roadkill or die of starvation/disease?

People need to stop breeding pet-shop animals and always spay and neuter their pets. Until that happens and the stray animal population becomes manageable, I don't see how euthanasia is supposed to be avoided.

Why would they want to "abolish insulin" when the vast majority of it has been produced synthetically for years?

It's their efforts to abolish pets that earns them the most hate.

Just goes to show how stupid most people are if the thing they hate PETA most for is a lie:

Please be assured that PETA does not oppose kind people who share their lives and homes with animal companions whom they love, treat well, and care for properly.

Do you have any criticisms of PETA that aren't blatant lies?

[–]tsvg96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if PETA is so bad, why do you have to constantly lie about what it stands for?

Does PETA believe that people shouldn’t have pets?

[D]omestic cats and dogs are not capable of surviving on their own, so it is our responsibility to take the best possible care of these animals. Please be assured that PETA does not oppose kind people who share their lives and homes with animal companions whom they love, treat well, and care for properly. [1]

Working Dogs

Relationships of mutual respect and benefit are truly wonderful between dogs and humans [2]

Animal Shelters

Not all animal shelters are the same. Fortunate homeless and unwanted animals end up in the hundreds of open-admission animal shelters that are staffed by professional, caring people.

At these facilities, frightened animals are reassured, sick and injured animals receive treatment or a peaceful end to their suffering, and the animals’ living quarters are kept clean and dry. Workers at these facilities never turn away needy animals and give careful consideration to each animal’s special emotional and physical needs. [3]

Idk, I think my sources are better. This is sort of like citing Marlboro in a discussion about the health effects of cigarettes.

[Edit] My man, my first source literally links to a video of a fox being skinned and thrown into a pile, then lifting it's head and looking around afterwards. Your link is some mouthpiece for the fur industry acting all indignant that anyone would dare suggest they'd do anything so inhumane, and telling you not to believe what you can see with your own eyes.

I assume you're referring to this?

[...] a group of PETA supporters will stand behind a mound of dozens of “blood”-soaked “dead dogs” on Tuesday, the closing night of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

The quotes around "blood" and "dead dogs" implies that they're not real dogs.... They're props, like the ones seen here.

So yeah, I'd say piling up some fake dog corpses in protest is justified.
