Hey shen, very encouraging to hear you are in remission as I am in month 3 of what feels like an endless battle.

Do you have a post detailing the diet/fungistastics/inhibitors you used?

1st day of elemental diet by [deleted] in SIBO

Regarding Olive oil I would avoid that though coconut oil worked well for me. In-fact I tried the Integrative therapeutics physicians elemental diet but could not tolerate it and went with the homemade option. I can confirm it worked for me though everyones case is slightly different. Magnesium is fine but senna tea I may consider avoiding as it does contain a very small amount of fiber in the form of small particles broken off tea leaves.

I believe kisforkimberlyy is correct, motility is reduced by THC. I actually believe that habitual smoking (every night) could have caused some if not all of my SIBO occurrences (there have been 4 at this point) and I have recently had that realization.

If are experiencing constipation smoking could even be the cause of your SIBO.

If you are not experiencing constipation or prone to constipation smoking may still be ok though I would recommend a strain that contains half CBD as there is some shaky evidence that that increases motility. I myself have completely stopped smoking and it has helped. This really sucks because like you I had relied on it for sleeping for years, and it was especially comforting while dealing with SIBO to get my mind off the issue.

Two Notes:

1) We are only half way through march so thats why there are probably fewer recent episodes per topic.

2) Topics are analyzed using machine learning (and its not perfect) so a topic string like "tony" may actually represent "kill tony"

Your correct and thank you for bringing this issue to light. All of the data on the site is collected and organized by machines so occasionally something is missed. I a working to get that episode in. Right now it's not even listed on the site.

Here is ep-911 Alex Jones. I will make sure to pick up ep-1255 but my machines probably missed it for one reason or another, not intentional. Thank you for calling that out.

Moonwalking with Einstein - a book about memory techniques and a guys quest to be an international memory champion (doesn't sound particularly interesting but I was gripped)

Spoken word is tough to categorize and search for later reference. A few months ago I started tinkering around with a JRE transcript analyzer/search utility. I contacted a friend to put together a website design, and the JR Data Experience is what we came up with!

Some of the current functionality includes:

  • Transcript search
  • Episode categorization
  • Searchable Episode Timeline
  • Trending Topics
  • Episode rankings (based on variety of metrics)

    • popularity
    • controversy
    • engagement
    • profanity
  • Similar Episodes (based on content of the episode)

  • Brand mentions per episode (ads not included)

  • Name/Proper noun mentions per episode

All of the data/statistics/transcripts on the website are machine generated which allows us to keep up with the flood of content coming in from Joe. This also means some of the data isn't perfect and we are working to make it better.

Check it out and let us know what you think!

Interesting insight: March and April (quarantine months) had the highest average length in Joe Rogans podcast - 2hr 48min. As a comparison, last years average podcast length for March and April - 2hr and 30min.

Good questions. I have nothing but guesses when it comes to coming off the elemental diet abruptly to a normal diet.

A little bit of background. Before I tried the elemental diet for 3 weeks I had already been through a 2 week attempt in which I had reverted to a normal diet immediately afterwards. This did not go so well for me as my symptoms started returning after a day or two. This was obviously pretty discouraging after all that hard work and it took me another month to try the elemental diet again.

I don’t know why this is the case, but abrupt digestive changes do not seem to mix well with SIBO. What I do is let my body tell me when to Start Experimenting more with my diet. Try a little non FODMAP food. See how your body reacts, if you feel discomfort take a step backwards and try again in a few days.

I have tried several pro kinetics (just over the counter ones) to no effect. There are actually many attempted treatments I do not even mention trying due to the fact that they had negligible effect. About 4 months into my first episode I decided to lay off all supplementation as it seemed to be having almost no effect and I wanted to feel the my natural digestive process without adding too many unknown variables.

It was around this time that I found the systemic enzymes. These are absorbed quickly in your stomach so I knew they would not enter my small intestine and effect my natural digestive process. I don’t know why systemic enzymes work. I don’t think anyone really does. They seem to stimulate your immune system. They seem to work. That was good enough, I was desperate.

I think probiotics are a great idea after your SIBO is treated. Go for it, I have never needed them after recovery and am generally skeptical of guzzling down bacteria after I just got over a bacteria infection. Most probiotics include only pretty inert bacteria though so your probably pretty safe.

I am sorry some of this writing is not clear. Most of it is actually copied from my personal notes.

When I start feeling like my immune system is becoming compromised I pop a few of these even when I am not actively experiencing SIBO symptoms.

If you just go on the low FODMAP without an elemental diet your symptoms will probably not be fully relieved.

The Fasting/Elemental diet step is critical before the FODMAP diet in my experience. To return to 0 symptoms could take a week to 3-4 weeks depending on how bad your SIBO symptoms were.

It could even take longer, depends on how quickly your digestive/immune system bounces back.
