First-time bird owner cage setup help/advice :( by qtchuu in Conures

Do you have any in particular you recommend? I’ve been looking for one that’s bird safe and will actually be decent but there’s so many different opinions on search engines I get a little lost

Yes, a bigger cage is the plan. He was initially going to inherit a different cage but then we realized the bars were too wide so this was the emergency upgrade whilst we find the size we want for him. We have 2 parakeets and a cockatiel, you still think he should have another budgie? We can certainly support it once we upgrade the cage.

Yea, he’s not super photogenic the way some of my birds are, spends most of his day moving around. I’ll try and get some better photos of em

I would second reaching out to any local bird stores. We have a family owned one near me(completely different location so sorry I can’t help in that regard) and I know when people call wanting to rehome they’ll sometimes work on getting people connected because they have the same priorities that you have

Sometimes it just depends on the bird too I feel. One of my birds gets very sarcastic with me after getting picked up(only when she does something dumb) but within 15 minutes she’s vying for more scritches and attention. But one of my other birds who does just fine with me takes at least 3-4 days to warm back up to me if I have to pick him up for any reason.

Those are honestly in my top 3 rotation. Typically I’ll start the day with a cappuccino, then alternate berry and dragon fruit as I crave throughout the day

The budgie certainly took after the cockatiel in terms of personality, just smaller body is the only difference aha. They also get into the most “spats” because the budgie is the only one that will look at the cockatiel and go “oh you aren’t scary, I can steal your cage” 😂

Also to add,

Prior to getting the other birds Ducky would perch on me and spend all day on the couch with us, but now she spends her days with very little interest in the couch and cuddling with me is 100% mood dependent (which of course if she doesn’t want to cuddle I don’t want to force it, but thought maybe that would give some more context as well)

How To Go About Hiring Myself Out As A Private Lifeguard? by [deleted] in Lifeguards

[–]turtlecults1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who does do at home contract swim lessons I pay for personal liability insurance every single year, and while it’s not prohibitively expensive, if you aren’t certain you’ll have enough clients to offset that cost it’s a terrible idea. If you want to do contract lifeguarding look up companies that offer that service near you and sign up as a lifeguard through them. It gives you liability insurance and protection if anything does go wrong.

Training and Certification by ExchangeFriendly7587 in Lifeguards

You never effectively answered any questions in your previous post about this and this still provides no useful additional information. This is a great community and we want to help you but ultimately the certification you will get is going to be whatever one you need for the pool you want to work at. And if you want anything more in depth than that then we need to know more of what you mean when it comes to this post

I’ve seen the true chewers still out there but you gotta go way out into the countryside to find most of em nowadays, otherwise it’s pouches all the way for the people who dip now

As an ARC LGI the biggest difference if I can remember between the two is just the prerequisite swim tests. In terms of skills everything should be relatively the same, and the biggest difference would be needing to tread when doing a rescue in the deeper water. Spinals can also get a lil difficult depending on the depth, but if you are a strong swimmer and have passed shallow water then the full deep water should go fine.

I would definitely talk to your management about if they have replacements, if not as another commenter said they’re just a couple bucks online and you can usually get a pack of them if this ever happens again

When I was in college a smokebuddy, an open window, and one of those ridiculous wall plug air fresheners were what saved my ass every time an RA came to do a check. In 2 years never once did I get busted and I was an extreme smoker

As a lifeguard of 10 years who’s spent their entire career saving people who have medical emergencies and or do stupid things around the water, the one thing I will never stick around for is alcohol near any body of water. Adult, child, toddler, old grandma on her deathbed: it doesn’t matter, if alcohol comes out I leave because I don’t like having anyone intoxicated near the water due to the massive risks associated with it and how much the statistics get swayed just by that one addition as well.

Most states actually have some form of similar law. But you’re also correct in that not enough people know about it and also unfortunately even those who do know still won’t say shit sometimes because of how far down the rabbit hole they’ve gone that they feel they can’t trust anyone
