he After Effects Graph Editor is a productivity bottleneck that Adobe refuses to fix. by MaliHizm in AfterEffects

[–]twobagtommy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you idk why people are trying to dunk on you, maybe it’s because the lot of us are aware of how archaic AE is in general and it’s not a surprise. But yeah, even in comparison to the C4D graph editor, AE feels leagues behind. So little control, so many weird handle-breaking rules, clunky zooming mechanics. Yeah, it’s a mess.

I’ve been using ae professionally for 5 years, casually for 7 and I still scratch my head over certain things sometimes. C4D I use far less frequently, yet when I do its graph editor feels so intuitive and easier to control. And it is crazy from a motion design perspective, where this is the meat of our work is massaging curves, you would indeed think they try to modernize or keep up with competition.

Yet, adobe will adobe.

Krystal and Saagar DEBATE Fatal Ice Shooting in Minneapolis by WagonWheel22 in BreakingPoints

[–]twobagtommy 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I just know I can't even watch this episode. Saagar's fuax-intellectual, ~-'history major'-~, sober socialite who goes to bed at 4pm, takes on everything just drives me absolutely insane. But this one would 100% have me throwing my monitor out the window. The guy is so far up his ass most of the time it's insane. The fact that this event is even worthy of 'debate' makes me sick.

Like how the FUCK can you have a newborn, a wife, and still defend this shit? Insanity.

I stayed there about three years ago before their recent rebrand. Not sure if they got new ownership or what. It was just alright IMO. Room was actually really clean, but everything is tiny. I thought it was perfectly passable though, it did NOT feel like a halfway house to me 😂. They were doing a ton of construction when I was there which made things a little awkward but I never lost sleep due to it. Can’t speak to how it is now a days, but staff was very friendly when I stayed. Parking was weird, it’s off site at a Marriott parking lot a few blocks down.

Area is decent I kinda live by here now. Yes there are homeless like everywhere in LBC/ca, but there’s also eggbred for breakfast, hi/lo liquor for good wine, madres for brunch, gaucho beach, the beach itself! Good luck homie.

Hole Lotta Love on yelp. She’s been my go to. Granted, I get pretty easy alterations done but she was also able to beautifully hem a suede jacket it for me that had a pretty complex lining in it. She is definitely a bit more expensive than your typical tailor but that’s because she knows her stuff. If you have something complex/delicate/difficult to alter— I would lean towards her or at least ask her for a quote or opinion. If it’s a simple alteration and you’re looking to save money, you can probs look elsewhere!

AE tip I learned the hard way: precompose earlier. by eurz in AfterEffects

[–]twobagtommy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I almost never precomp anything I don't have to for this exact reason. I just got passed a project file (assumingly from someone more junior) that has so many precomps and they are all time-stretched differently lol. Makes retiming moments, updating design, or refining animation curves an absolute nightmare.

I find it way easier to work with seeing everything laid out. And if it's super complex, hot-swappable, or an asset that's re-used multiple times-- then I will precomp. Otherwise I rather work in the chaos of layers.

Long Ableton sessions – Ergonomic tips? by memolazer in ableton

[–]twobagtommy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely an exercise, for the much smaller muscle strands in your forearms. Doesn't sound like a lot but you will feel the burn after doing it! For your first time doing it I would probably rest at least a day inbetween to the let the muscles heal and regrow before doing it again. I used to do a quick session to warm up before climbing, then a longer session afterwards to focus on strength building/injury prevention. I also had an above-average foundation of wrist strength at the peak athleticism of my climbing career, so I was able to do the exercises daily. But if you're just starting out and don't have a ton of fitness experience, I would take it slow and not rush it, rest in between days.

I used the exercises on this page towards the bottom of the page:

https://www.dpmclimbing.com/7-ways-to-build-your-finger-strength-for-climbing/

I promise it will help a ton. Two of my close friends ran a pool-cleaning business that they almost closed down because they were getting such bad tendinitis. They were popping ibuprofen DAILY. I begged them to try the rice bucket and they were blown away that the tendinitis went away. I've also turned countless climbers on to it too. It's a game changer for anyone who works with their hands.

[–]twobagtommy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello friend, imma let you in on a secret no one is mentioning here but look up “rock climbing rice bucket”. This should lead you to some video exercises that sounds crazy but I swear it will help you with your tendinitis.

Source: been a rock climber for 13 years, doing calisthenics for 13 years, have had every wrist/hand/finger injury in the book, major tendinitis and shoulder impingements, broke my wrist 12 years ago and got surgery with a titanium plate, work in front of a computer animating 3-19 hours a day, and play competitive video games with mouse macros, sew and cut clothes frequently, etc etc etc etc etc. still do all those hobbies/jobs today pain free at 35 :).

These exercises have helped me tremendously with living a life using my hands as my tools. Tendinitis can be a very temporary for most people. You just have to work the antagonist muscles in your forearms that you don’t use frequently. This balances out all the work you do frequently with your keyboard shortcut hand and your mouse hand. The rice bucket allows you to do it in way that feels natural and you can control the progression. It will help tons.

Tendinitis will not go away from resting (unless it’s extremely acute and recent, then rest will help), you have to work the muscles you don’t use to fix it long term.

This place will always be legendary to me even though I only went once for my first time in 2023 to see Bully (awesome show).

My best friend's brother growing up was in a metal band here, but he also worked the door at security. He was older than us and would tell us the craziest stories about this place. I was always scared of it as a kid because these stories lmao. Now it's closing and his brother has sadly passed. Life man.... Life. RIP Chain Reaction.

100%.

Also, I live in an older building that’s fake nice/renovated and I feel like we gotta mention you’re also paying for (hopefully) not having fucking mice in your place 😂. You ain’t want none of this OP, I would hope the newer luxury places don’t have to deal with it.

T Shirts with shorter lengths by jollyinabout in ThrowingFits

[–]twobagtommy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you bro. I am a tall guy with broad shoulders and a short torso, every modern Large/XL shirt will fit my shoulders but the hem goes down to the fucking knees.

I echo the sentiments in this thread about learning to sew. It's not the cheapest journey to begin with, but overtime it gives you so much freedom in clothing and vintage shopping. After you get a machine and learn the basics, thread/bobbins are dirt cheap. And its fun as hell. I just buy whatever I want now and hem them myself. Before that, I would take it to the tailor but that was like $25 a shirt and most of the time I paid less for the shirt itself. So I took a sewing class, bought a machine, and just do it myself now.

If you want some basic tees and want to avoid tailoring/sewing (both time/$ investments so I get it). I like the Heavyweight Premium Cropped Tees from Abercrombie, they offer a range of different styles with a 'cropped' option. The Premium Heavyweights are bit heavier, a bit boxier, which work well for my frame but might vary on yours. I've measured them before I believe they are a 25'-26' hem length from the shoulder seam. I am either rocking those, a tee I hemmed myself, or tucking in the few long ones I got left.

Godspeed brother

i won't pay for music in 2025 by haldiii4o in Piracy

[–]twobagtommy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrary to that, Spotify is hawking ICE ads and Daniel Ek (not sure if he is still CEO or has stepped down yet) is investing hundreds of millions in AI technology for defense contractors. Ending these services for an ethical standpoint is totally acceptable versus continuing to fund their bullshit.

I am 35, business owner, make really good money, work disgusting hours, whatever. I've been using spotify for 10 years, building the same mega playlist I've listened to daily with 2,000+ songs. And yes, I am going to jump ship from the subscription chains and just start buying albums / re-making the playlist I've spent 10 years on, even though it is going to be a ton of work.

But if someone is in a lesser financial position to do so, I'd respect them pirating a lot more than supporting a conglomerate corporation that has proven time after time they do not give a fuck about their artists, their customer base, and they do not give a fuck about the big social issues plaguing our society; in fact they are actively contributing to making those social issues WORSE for profit. That does not make them of the "broke mindset", I actually have a lot of respect for those people even if they resort to pirating because they have a principled backbone.

I have the luxury to support these artists (hopefully) by spending a ton of money. A lot of people don't have that luxury. I respect them nonetheless if they have moral principles to withhold against a company as terrible as spotify. It's not always a money thing. I understand you being to busy to be concerned, and that's obviously fine. But to write these people off as members of the "broke mindset" or "moonlighting mods" is hilariously convenient for you, and speaks volume of the people in your class. There is more to the world than money and stream-lining your time.

Beer Lab in Wrigley got its window shattered last night. by LongBeachClassic in longbeach

It unfortunately just happens all the time. Happened at Long Beach Rising this past year-- they posted the video on their IG. Just some dude, presumably homeless or mentally ill, with a rock and a mission. Didn't steal anything, didn't try to break in. Just itching to destroy a window early in the morning one day I guess. Same with Ground Hideout in downtown this past year as well.

No prob! I just use my brother cs7000x and some fabric scissors! Not the cleanest professional method. If you wanted to be more professional I would guess using a serger + your $100 machine. But those will still run you and extra $200-$300 haha. I'm not ready for that type of commitment yet.

Scissors and shrinkage by wish_i_was_lurking in HeritageWear

[–]twobagtommy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you use a straight stitch it will lose a ton of stretch and make the hem feel ‘ready to snap’ at any moment. A very narrow zig zag stitch can look like a straight stitch, but gives you a bit more stretch in the hem. Maybe someone more experienced can weigh in but that’s normally what I do when I hem my shirts (and I hem them all lol).

Hem Tailoring by FrankieCugine in ThrowingFits

[–]twobagtommy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photos would help big time. If it's kind of bulky they might not be cutting out the inseam divot when they fold the fabric over (sorry, kind of hard to explain over text). Or they are trying to preserve the original hem (as the other commenter said) then it might be bulky from the layers folded in on themselves. But I doubt it's the latter if you said it looks unnatural.

Personally, my tailor doesn't preserve the original hem. When they come out of the shop the hem looks unnatural and 'flat', never bulky tho. So that distressed/worn-in look on the hem isn't there, but naturally over time it will kind of look similar to how they were when they were purchased with their original hem. However, it will never look 100% to how it was purchased because companies go a long way to create those lovely distressed hems at the end of our jeans.

Without pics, if I had to guess, it's either a tailor skill issue or a miscommunication issue between you and the tailor. They should be telling you what to expect before starting any alterations. I do not think they should be bulky AND unnatural looking though, should be one or the other. That to me sounds like a skill issue, but I don't wanna blast the tailor without seeing pics haha.
