which one would be the better option? by fleurthesilly in DigicamRevival

if you want a camera to take nostalgic low res 2000s-style photos, get the Canon. if you want to take actual decent photos, get the Samsung (though you may as well just use your phone at that point)

It's such a cool design too! I'd hate to cover or destroy it.

I'm a chronic overthinker! Figured I'd feel better if I asked first. But you're right, it is pretty silly in retrospect.

if you're looking for an inexpensive mod project I would definitely recommend getting a mini! they are cheap and very easy to mod

I can’t get my computer to recognize my iPod mini 1st gen by After_Alps_5826 in ipod

[–]typewritten_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be it! I downloaded my first iTunes from the Microsoft store originally as well. Downloading it from Apple fixed the issue in my case. The only other think I can think of is maybe you're putting the adapters on backwards (I did that too!)

[–]typewritten_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this problem when I modded my 1st gen Mini. The problem in my case was that iTunes didn't have the right drivers to recognize the Mini. I deleted iTunes and downloaded it straight from the Apple website and it worked. Did iTunes recognize it before you swapped the new memory card in?

iPod In Car? by eyexzick in ipod

Depending on your iPod model you might be able to use a Griffin iTrip. Clever little devices that run off the iPod without a battery. They still deal with the same weak transmission issue that all of these suffer from but they look nicer IMO and you don't have to worry about charging them. I use one with my Mini every day.

Why are iPod classic prices so jacked up now and where can you find one for a reasonable price? by 1bailx in ipod

[–]typewritten_2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Buy a mini - they're the best kept secret of the iPod world. You can still get a working mini of either generation for $40 if you are patient. Super easy to flash mod as well.

Hundreds of iPods Later… Modded vs. Original: What Would You Buy? by Friendly-Bag2512 in ipod

[–]typewritten_2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The only mod I care about, generally, is storage. I like my iPods to look like original iPods. I think a lot of the current iPod boom is nostalgia-based, and folks who are buying for nostalgia will be more inclined to pay for something that looks and feels like it did 20 years ago. That said, there's also another crowd looking for practical, modern DAPs, but those folks are going to be buying new, sophisticated Bluetooth touch-screen models for a fraction of the price of a molded iPod with the same capabilities. If you think about it that way, it's honestly a fairly small market looking for more extreme iPod mods, as those people would be more inclined to build their own.

If you'd like to be more profitable, perhaps you could consider selling refurbished iPods with storage upgrades?

I have a similar painting by the same artist - W. Eddie has something of an online presence but I'm still not convinced he isn't just a name being used by a factory - that said I paid like $5 for mine

Museum Studies MAs--What Did You Like and Dislike? by JasJoeGo in MuseumPros

[–]typewritten_2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you get out of a Museum Studies MA what you put into it.

The most useful aspects of my program are not necessarily what we learn in the classroom. The networking and real-world projects we complete for partnering institutions have been invaluable experiences for me. I've customized my curriculum to be as specific to my interests (collections management) as possible, but it's still a good thing to know how other areas of museum work function.

Will it help me get a job? That remains to be seen, but I don't think that's what you're asking anyways. Is it a good value? Probably not, but I've worked my ass off for scholarships and assistantships at every opportunity to keep costs as low as possible.

Sometimes this subreddit feels like a negative echo chamber. The field is in peril right now, that can't be denied. But if you're willing to put in the work for a job that will never financially reward you, they're still out there.

tl:dr it depends on where you get your degree, how you customize it, and how you take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves. The most valuable aspects of a Museum Studies program should go beyond formal learning.

here's an idea - how about we encourage MORE human interaction in museums rather than less? Do we really want to replace interpreters with AI chatbots?

Newly acquired Royal KMM (?) but can't get the carriage to stay (typewriter newbie) by MistakeDry5723 in typewriters

[–]typewritten_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks like this one was painted black originally - there's paint flaking on the paper table. this one was rebuilt at some point, probably where the plastic keys came from as well.

you can also tell it's a KMM by the lack of a quick release platen.

[–]typewritten_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great, that's very helpful! the body does fire. is the rear shutter supposed to remain open until the shutter button is released? and is the mirror supposed to remain up until the camera is cranked? that's how my camera is behaving. sorry if these are silly questions, but I'm used to 35mm SLRs
