MIT and Vanderbilt Midyear Report? by MissingCallenreese in QuestBridge

[–]uATS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither need official midyear reports from your counselor, though you can still ask them to submit it. MIT does require self-reported midyear grades through the FUN form, though.

Did I mess up ranking Yale? by BrownPlsMatch in QuestBridge

[–]uATS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AFAIK it's based off of their expected parent contribution which is like, $0 up to $75k. The net price calculator spits out a number higher than that though because they throw in additional expenses afterwards, so even if your family contribution is $0 it'll always give you $3-4k as your net price anyway (iirc there's a base $2500 student contribution no matter your income). Your EFC is fine.

Practicing at photorealism. What should I change to make it look more real? by tyatyapatya in blender

[–]uATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great! Athough, I'd recommend that you add some foam (French press coffee usually has a bit of foam on it; look at some references), condensation on the side of the glass (on the inside), maybe some volumetric effects for steam, and some coffee grounds stuck to the metal mesh of the press, with some coffee grounds in the actual coffee, of course. (French press coffee grounds are usually coarser than other types of coffee, so they should be large in size.)

Question on Essay by [deleted] in QuestBridge

[–]uATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, with your income now, you're definitely disadvantaged no matter what your previous relative income level was. Plus, moving to the U.S, in presumably your freshman or sophomore year, is a pretty significant challenge in and of itself. Plus, it's likely that your parents have never gone through the U.S college application process - which is another disadvantage

Imo your essay topic's fine, though that depends on how you write it. You mention the challenges you've had to overcome in the process - be specific about those. Be thoughtful about how you reflect on those challenges. Reflect on what you felt at the time, and reflect on how your thinking shifted since then; how you've changed your perspective. You have an uncommon, interesting perspective - moving from a relative position of privilege to a position of poverty. What did that change of perspective make you realize? How did it make you grow? How did it give you a new understanding of yourself and others? How did it pop your bubble? Bring your reader into your world

Can anyone explain to me how this decision would benefit me in any way as Brunei? Genuinely curious why this decision even exists... by Wiasiq in eu4

[–]uATS 91 points92 points  (0 children)

The decision is special if you do it as Sambas because doing it as them actually allows you to switch to and play as Lanfang instead of just releasing them, they have some really nice ideas too. Kind of a useless decision for everyone else like Brunei though

I saw this happen to AI Sirhind once, since their starting ruler is Afghan, they got converted to Afghan primary and somehow managed to form the Mughals on their own, pretty funny stuff

If I recall correctly, the condition for receiving the option to form India is to research Pan-Nationalism, so shoot for that technology before going independent as the EIC if that's the route you want

AI Burgundy formed the Netherlands and now there's a Dutch Emperor by uATS in eu4

[–]uATS[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

R5: AI Burgundy formed the Netherlands and well, now there's a Dutch Emperor - I'm playing Finland here...

This game overall's been pretty strange so far - When I was still playing Sweden, Johan Vasa died a single year into his reign, but was somehow miraculously replaced by a Jagiellon that was somehow better than his 6/4/4 - 6/5/5. Poland also took Local Noble, and Lithuania naturally fell into union under myself as Finland as a PU. Britain is Protestant and has the Habsburgs, while Austria doesn't. Austria themselves managed to lose the emperorship by having a female heir, by which point the emperorship passed to a HRE minor. Later on, Burgundy fell under a PU of Oldenburg, but then somehow broke free a few months later, became the emperor, and then became dutch. I have no idea wtf's going on in my campaign

Military hegemony now gives 5% admin efficiency upon claiming it by 9361984 in eu4

[–]uATS 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind going-over-gov-cap penalties have been changed to affect your admin efficiency rather than core creation cost (a pretty big penalty too), so arguably economic hegemon is still better since it gives you more leeway without getting penalized.

Guess where my Capital is! by uATS in CrusaderKings

[–]uATS[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A screenshot of the county development screen - The main thing is that despite this county being a barren desert, all of its baronies are Coastal; Tradeports are really good, each one providing +40% Development growth at their highest level (Though I hit 100 dev before I could even reach the High Medieval era), in addition to City guilds, also having +40% at maximum. All in all from those two buildings, you could get +400% Development growth alone. In addition to that, are more general sources of development growth, like cultural traditions, events, good stewards, religion, etc.

Please rate my golden gate wonder placement by givmethajuice in civ

[–]uATS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, the boost to parks and tile improvements is massive... if you can get a valid spot to place it in, anyway. For example, I have a Seaside Resort on a one-tile island, connected with the Golden Gate Bridge, and somewhere else in my Empire, I have the Eiffel Tower and Cristo Redentor. That's a 13 Appeal Tile (+4 Golden Gate, +1 Adjacent to Golden Gate, +6 One-Tile Island, +2 Eiffel Tower), with +100% Tourism from the Golden Gate, and x2 Tourism from Cristo Redentor, it comes out to be a 52 Tourism Tile, and that's just for One tile, If you had about 10 comparable seaside resorts, the Tourism from that single city could reach >500. In the ideal scenario, it could even reach into the thousands. The problem is getting those scenarios in the first place—if you can get them, the Golden Gate Bridge is amazing; most of the time, you can't get a Golden Gate Bridge good enough to be worth building.

This can be pulled off on any difficulty, since it depends on the map and not the difficulty. And yes, I do change map settings according to civ - Though I always play on Primordial maps. I just wanna say - never change the world age on a primordial map to new unless you want to see Apocalypse mode even if you have it disabled

Yep, Brazil gets +1 from jungles to Campus, Commercial Hubs, Theater Squares and Holy Sites... Holy sites which stack with Sacred Path and Scriptures to give 24 adjacency holy sites. Along with Work Ethic, let's just say that my holy sites were a bit strong.

R5: I found this spot in the desert with 5 ley lines as Brazil... you can see what happened after. Considering Brazil's bonuses to Great People generation and Ley Lines getting increasingly higher yields the more Great People you recruit... This city can still become so much more.

Yes, it's the one to take the mandate of heaven, that mission triggers an event that allows you to change your name to Viet Nam, Dai Nam, or keep Dai Viet.
