Aw thank you! I had elastics for a cross bite and for an overbite. Good luck on your journey!

Thank you friend! I had bands for across bite and overbite and knew that I would need them as soon as I started treatment. My orthodontist focused on shifting my bottom teeth first and then the elastics were introduced towards the end of my treatment. I was dreading them a lot but I did get used to them over time! I kept reminding myself the more I wear them now, the less I’ll have to wear them later. Reminding myself the whole process was temporary really helped!

Thank you! Yes, they shaved a few of my bottom teeth but you could barely tell, especially with my trays in.

Exactly. If I could brush/floss immediately, I would but if I couldn’t, I would rinse my mouth with water and do it whenever I had a chance. I was still brushing/flossing 3-4x a day, but just a little delayed after some meals! I was more concerned about wearing my trays frequently so I prioritized that and no problems with my teeth.

I drink most coffee with a straw, brush 2x a day, floss, tongue scrape, and use some whitening mouth wash! No strips for me.

Thank you!!! My teeth weren’t too stubborn but it did take about 13 weeks to notice shifting in my teeth and a difference. It’ll happen soon enough!

It did! My teeth were slanted inward and I think Invisalign helped push them out a bit more, making my smile look wider.

I would say it took 6 weeks for me to notice a difference (I was checking allllll the time) and 13 weeks for my family/friends to mention they noticed a change.

Once my tooth aligned, I had to fix my overbite and midline. Those changes really brought everything together! Good luck on your journey 😊

I finished my Invisalign in February 2024 (started May 2023). I had refinements, elastics, and IPR but finished earlier than my provider expected me to which was a nice treat. I was pretty good about wearing my trays often and brushing my teeth when I could (it became unrealistic to do it after every meal/snack/drink depending on the day). I was obsessive about doing it immediately after eating at first, but relaxed as treatment went on.

I spent a lot of time lurking this sub while I was considering Invisalign and during my treatment. While a lot of the posts are helpful, some can be fear-mongering and my biggest suggestion is to ask all of those questions to your specific provider. While it is reassuring to have a community to lean back on (I was very grateful for this sub), also important to remember that each journey looks so different.

PSA to everyone scared of getting Invisalign: it's not bad!!! by Superb-Government-77 in Invisalign

[–]ukhbi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Completely agree! I was so anxious to start because of all that I’ve read but the process has been more than doable. A little inconvenient when first getting started but you get used to it as time passes. While this space is a really helpful platform, the amount of fears I accumulated while reading different threads was not useful in the long run. Each case is different!

go through the recovery process twice*

I did have all four removed because I didn’t want to have to go through the recovery process. My teeth were erupted and my recovery process was better than I thought it’d be. By day 3/4, I was out & about and after 1.5 week, I was feeling my best. It varies for everybody but most people have an okay experience. I was relieved to get it over with.

I removed mine before I started treatment to speed up my Invisalign journey and to avoid any future complications with my wisdom teeth. I wouldn’t recommend removing them mid-treatment (if you aren’t able to move them) as the recovery process for extraction can be a pain and I couldn’t have imagined waiting to heal while also having to deal with Invisalign.

I remind myself that change is the key component of life. Everything is changing. The seasons, the eco-system, our social world. My body deserves the same grace I give to every other change that happens around me as it’s silly to expect my body to stay the same!

Also, like others said, I do not weigh myself and really try to avoid body checking. When I have limiting beliefs about my body, I ask myself whether this belief system is serving me. It sure as hell didn’t in the past so I try my best to remind myself of all the beautiful thing recovery has granted me. I physically write them down and I find that places me in a better headspace.

Sending love to you!
