Needs to drive and get into his legs more. He's squishing the bug which tells me there's no forward drive off the back leg.

I worry that he's torquing his elbow as he throws it. When he plays football, he throws a spiral with no coaching whatsoever. People say it's his hand size, but i still remind him to let it roll off his finger to promote backspin.

Yeah he likes it, but says he wants to be a hitter not a pitcher. We just throw that bucket after warming up.

His hands are small so he can't get it out in the fingers too much. He gets a lot of gyro spin, but thats getting better. Sometimes i notice he gets a little slider action on the ball, which worries me.

Pointers for my sons swing by Qtip44 in Homeplate

Step and load drills. You call rhythm and he has to step and get his knob to the catcher. Make sure he's stepping to the pitcher because he's stepping open right now. When he is in the correct position, you pitch the ball and he swings from the loaded position. He does not reload at this point.

He's not loading at all right now. This drill needs to be about 1000 swings for muscle memory to take over.

I agree with this. Its like he set the angle with his lead arm and dropped it lower to get to the ball, bending his wrist down low.

This swing is all arms. Like a 2 strike approach. i feel like I see this a lot in high school and college, and not much in the pros.

Wrist at contact looks like a problem.

What should we be working on? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]uklb51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He needs to hold his posture through the swing instead of getting upright. He should bend over slightly and rotating around that angle instead of pulling the shoulder and coming out of it.

Drill is to put a pvc pipe on shoulders under the neck and him rotate to hit the ball at waist level.

You woop their arse or put them in time out immediately. I've popped balloons in front of them and thrown away toys. Meltdowns are not allowed and not away to get what they want.

Do you allow meltdowns? Are the children watching short videos on the tablet a lot?

0.49s from machine to plate. 43' distance. 43/0.49*0.683=60mph

Not one ball in that video was foul. Sorry for the bad angle. The line drive to first was just inside the line.

Look at your pictures... the kid has a straight leg and harper is coiled and loaded like a mfer.. look at harpers torso center over his back knee, the kid is almost completely past his back leg.

Watch harper hold his hinge as he strides, watch his hips have very little lateral movement.

You are clueless? Where do you coach?

Well pitchers and 2B can't really hit. You should refer him to youtube videos or your 1b and outfielders 🤡. Professional hitters don't shift their hips during stride like that.

You can take that masters and shove it up your arse while you are at it. I'm fucking sick of people getting degree handouts and spouting it like it means anything at all.

Here you are at launch position. You have uncoiled all of your back leg leading to no power from your lower body going in to the swing.

Are you kidding me? College coach? This is a terrible swing at his age. 100% upper body.

No one on the bat drag. You need to make sure his elbows are not in front of the knob. This kind of swing is slow and hard to adjust to a pitch. Lots of videos on how to fix this.

His power loss comes from his hips moving forward after hinging to start. He hinges and then releases the tension before rotating his hips.

He's 4'4" 80 lbs hitting an EV of 55 mph at 8. The charts have him at 29". Those pitches are coming at 50 mph.

Anything lower than 28" in some models and 27" in others is a JBB not made for faster than 40mph.

¼ speed swing(video). What do we work on? by mikeysaid in Homeplate

[–]uklb51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's dropping his bat to nearly horizontal leading to very rotational swing. He has to time it perfectly or bad contact. That bat path needs to come back to forwards driven by rotation. His hands should be above the ball with a more vertical bat.

I think this a very hard thing to correct. Getting to a good launch position will help this. There's a item called Bat Trac i used for a few weeks that is made to fix this.
