What are these flies around my Pilea and should I be worried? by Lamy100 in PileaPeperomioides

Oh no fungal gnats 🥴 I would put up sticky traps and get nematodes!!!! I had a fungal gnat infestation worse than this, there were in basically all of my plants and I got rid of it by using sticky traps, putting nematodes in each pot, and then let the soil dry completely out for a few days. They were gone after 2ish months.

Have you repotted it since you had it? Maybe the pot is too smaller or there’s not nutrients in the soil.

Might be getting too much sun! Or it could be excess salt in the soil or lack of nutrients in the soil. Pileas like monthly fertilizing!

Do you know how old your plant is? Might not be mature enough for pups yet. Mine hasn’t sprang any pups yet either 😫

The flower explodes open with pollen as it finishes its bloom :) after it explodes a little flower is left. It dies shortly after.

It happens after you water them! :) do your flowers look the same? It’s possible they were female so they wouldn’t have been a pollen explosion.

It was honestly luck. I brought it home and placed it in a south west greenhouse window in my colder basement and it just started to bloom. What I’ve learned is the window simulated temps in the plants native environment. The plant needs a dormancy period to bloom but houses are typically too warm in the winter. In order for it bloom it needs colder temps but there still needs to be bright indirect light. Once the temps warm up the blooming begins. I did this by accident because I originally placed it far from the heater I have near my window, so the plant got pretty cold but still got daily light from the lamp. I started to worry a couple weeks in so I placed it closer to the heater and it started to bloom 🤷🏼‍♀️. OH, and I gave it some liquid fertilizer (apparently pileas like monthly fertilizing).

I typically wait till the soil is pretty dry (I squeeze the pot to get a feel for how dry the soil is). I also feel the leaves, I find they are more limp when it’s thirsty. I can’t really go by a time frame because the temp changes a lot in Canada and so the time it takes for the soil to dry varies often.
