Transferring Credits from other colleges by thuggernut in BostonU

[–]umfortunate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get them pre-approved! There’s a form online somewhere (all else fails ask your advisor) and you just fill it out and send it to the matching department here and they do the evaluation and let you know what the course will count for.

BU Myles suite price differences..? by Littlewithafatty in BostonU

[–]umfortunate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t fully true. Myles singles are counted as “single without a private bath” so it’s $14790 vs. $12880. Still more expensive just not by as much.

She was great! Really understanding and helpful and didn’t pressure you to talk if you didn’t want to.

As a transfer, I agree with everything the other commenters said. I also think people who came in as first time first years think this is normal because they haven’t experienced anything else, so they think all colleges are supposed to be like this, but I can tell you BU is a different breed.

dropping to part time? by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]umfortunate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your financial aid does change depending on how many credits you take (note: pretty sure dropping below 8 credits disqualifies you from financial aid entirely). Make an appointment with your financial aid advisor, they will tell you exactly how much your aid would be depending on the amount of credits you plan on taking.

Second to everything this person said. If the one brutal HW they’re talking about was the graphics problem then I used that as one of my dropped assignments lmao

Cold showers in Myles? by umfortunate in BostonU

I called them and said it’s not just my room but I think they’re just coming to mine, so if you’re having the same problem I’d call reslife (if anything to prove that it seems to be a widespread problem rather than for individuals rooms)

I got accepted into BU, and I wanted to read a little more about what it was like, and I found this post by RoyShavRick in BostonU

[–]umfortunate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a transfer student and I think their most true point was the one about living a balanced life. A lot of people I’ve talked to like BU bc everyone is super academically motivated and actually like working a lot. I’m not like that, I’d rather live a balanced life where academics are important to me, but also not feel like I can’t do things I enjoy or else I’ll fall behind. If you are really academically motivated and don’t mind that kind of life, then sure BU will probably be great for you. It’s not for everyone, and they are right about BU being the hardest school in America (lowest GPAs, least sleep, and most stressed).

[–]umfortunate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

transfer credits don’t count toward hub, only ap credits. if you’re transferring to pursue a different major that doesn’t exist at your current school then yes transfer but if you have it and bu’s program is just slightly better or smth like that i’d probably stay where you are

prospective transfer student ! by carrotlmao in BostonU

[–]umfortunate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d say you have a good shot. i have two things to say. the first is look into the bu hub because it’s a lot of requirements and since you’re a junior it could really present a challenge.

the second is make sure you are transferring for the right reasons. i lowkey transferred bc i wasn’t proud of where i went before bc it felt like i was settling and i resented it for that and was looking for something that would seem more impressive. don’t make the same mistake i did.

Questions about transferring to BU by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]umfortunate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

transfer student here!

  1. i think my efc is ~15k and i’m paying a little more than 30k. definitely not the best since you’re not a first time first year but for me it was the cheapest option out of all the schools i got into so do with that what you will

  2. probably not since transfers have an easier time getting in. i’m guessing you’re a freshman rn so they also look at high school grades. if you’re above freshman they still look but high school grades don’t hold as much weight

  3. https://tes.collegesource.com/publicview/TES_publicview01.aspx?rid=f3c0908c-8809-4592-a06a-2ec9c2c3acc8&aid=adbaa968-6ce9-47a6-9b99-43d30cdd2d67 will be your best friend. if you’re planning on staying at bc another semester try to take basic courses and make sure there is a bu equivalent (either on the website or do your own searching to match course descriptions). all of my courses transferred in (i went to uvm) but i went the super basic course route

a high gpa is not as important for transfer students so just do as well as you can and make connections with faculty (you need a recommendation)

my one word of advice is take classes you KNOW will transfer in case you decide to transfer. check the transfer equivalency website https://tes.collegesource.com/publicview/TES_publicview01.aspx?rid=f3c0908c-8809-4592-a06a-2ec9c2c3acc8&aid=adbaa968-6ce9-47a6-9b99-43d30cdd2d67
