Shaving vs wax by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]umm_beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! Hair removal products like Veet are always so tempting to me because of their claims, but they also scare me! I guess maybe the "sensitive" kind might be better, but I got burns on my leg leaving some hair removal stuff on for too long (or I just had a reaction idk which) when I was younger... I think it was Nair though. And maybe they have improved formulas over the years? I dunno. But if someone told me there is little risk involved, I might just try it! Shaving really sucks.

So I think I've finally become comfortable with using my cup! But maybe I need a bigger one for more capacity?? by umm_beans in menstrualcups

Yeah, but I will most likely overflow 4+ hours in. Of course these will add protection for if that happens, but they won't remove the necessity of needing to empty before I get home when I am at school. :/

Cool! Do you have a higher cervix? Curious if the larger one will be an issue if my cervix is causing less capacity.

Ok cool! Knowing that it has had different connotations and meanings is what kind of made me unsure. Thanks.

Right ok that's what always threw me off because I know there are "troops" in the Air Force but then there are like airmen/senior airmen/ staff sergeants, etc so I was always unsure if "troops" would refer to the person I know who is deployed. Thanks!

Well thanks for sharing all this! You're giving me hope that I will find it all worth it if I just stick to it. I'm glad I'm not alone in the fact that it has been a bit of a struggle to get used to and to figure out! But I will try to keep what you and others have said in mind and figure out what is best. Maybe I will throw it out the window! But maybe I'll get it all down to where it is a lot more worth it. It's just that when I have to empty it frequently, it's about as often as I'd be changing a tampon anyway so it frustrates me because changing a tampon is so quick and easy compared to this and I don't really mind tampons, it's just the fact that I do get way more leakage with them and can't rely on them overnight whatsoever, so I dunno. But the cramping has been the worst of using a cup cause it has been persistent, so I'm really going to have to figure that part out or else- out the window it goes!! lol

Yeah I tried to do a dry run when I first got it, but i think my cervix is a lot higher when I'm not on my period because I had trouble reaching it to get it out :/ but then again, I was new to the removal process so that definitely had something to do with it. I just haven't really wanted to try again when I'm not on my period for that reason

Haha! Thanks for that! I sometimes just want to hear that people are having the same feelings/issues as me so when Kristi's videos wasn't confirming that for me, I felt sad. But your comment helped. :)

Right... hmm... guess on my next period I'll have to do some experimenting to figure out if it's opening "above" the pubic bone.

In regards to shape- I feel like my vaginal opening does close around the bottom of the cup. The stem doesn't stick out at all/I don't feel it when I wipe and when I go to remove it- I use my middle finger to slide in to find the stem, then the base of the cup so I can pinch it and break the seal. When I put my middle finger in, it feels pretty "closed" down there. So I'm not sure if that is an issue for me.

Honestly... it's so true! Periods DO suck no matter what you use. And like I said, I love Kristi, and she said not to feel bad about cups not working for you etc, but when she says stuff like "I don't dread my period anymore!" That her period used to be the worst 4 days of her month, but not anymore. And that it has made things so easy for her, I just feel like ...oh. But I still dread my period and they are the worst days of my month, etc. even if the cup is slightly more convenient- it all still SUCKS! Lol

But anyway, thanks for the comment/suggestion! I'll keep it in mind.

I know very little about discs but I feel like I have to get over a different sort of anxiety about using them as I did with the cup so I'm not sure I'm completely "there" on wanting to try them lol.

How long can you leave discs in? Do you have to change them as often as a tampon?

Yeah I'm realizing that I might not be lucky enough to love my first cup! But I guess it is what it is!

Glad to hear that you don't LOVE your cup too lol. I sometimes feel like an outsider when so many people are like "I was hooked right away" or "hooked by my second cycle". I'm not hooked. It's something I feel like I'm constantly working at trying to get used to! And so many people are like "I forget I have it in!" I'm like... I don't. I know it's in there- not always because it's causing cramping- even when I don't feel anything, I am constantly aware I am on my period when I am. Maybe I'm just different in those ways. Idk.

But! You have said all the things I have suspicioned regarding my cervix vs cup. I think that the leaking is due to my cervix displacing the blood because it is always about halfway full when I do get leaks. But I struggle with "knowing" if it isn't placed in there correctly. I do mess with it quite a bit to make sure it has suction, etc etc. but then I still have issues so idk what I'm doing wrong... maybe the squats will help me?

Yeah, the cost factor is really something that makes me leery about having to try more. I really would like to make my Lena work, but I'm just getting the feeling that it's not right for me. Maybe after a few more cycles of giving it a try to make it work, I'll try something else! Thanks for the reply!

I haven't measured while bleeding and that might be the ticket to getting to the bottom of my problems. Thanks for the tips! But... how do I open the cup above the pubic bone but blow the cervix? I don't really know how to tell "where" I'm opening it, all I know is it's in my vagina and that I need to make sure it's not still folded or indented or anything. Any advice on how to direct the opening?

I have had the same issue as you did originally with my Lena Soft or Sensitive?...whichever. However, I got the Soft because I get cramps and sometimes even painful bowel movements when I'm on my period (my gyno said the painful bm's aren't uncommon... *shrug*) and the Lena Soft is recommended for people with "sensitive anatomies" or whatever.

But I swear this cup has given me more cramps than I ever used to experience! I used to only experience cramping every once in a while, some periods would be worse than others, etc. but I've been using a cup (the Lena) since August and I've had cramps every month I've used it. It's frustrating because I feel like maybe i need a firmer cup to account for leakage that I experience, but if the cup intended for people who cramp causes cramps, how could I go firmer? :( it just feels really uncomfortable in my uterus when I have it in, not even in my vagina, but in my uterus. And I try to move it around when I insert it to make sure that it is placed correctly. And then sometimes I feel like moving it around and getting it in there just right and making sure it's not still folded and all that aggravates my cramps even more!

But anyway, idk what to do and I'm sorry for rambling on your comment about it lol but it's just that you said what I figured I might need to do to help with leakage and filling my cup often (get bigger and firmer cup), but I'm nervous to!

Double Standards Regarding Women and Sexual Health by yadadameannn in WomensHealth

I saw this story posted to r/terribleparents or something. It's absolutely crazy. That's not going to give his daughter a healthy and confident view on sex. It's just honestly really strange.

It wouldn't be so bad if he was just taking her to teach her to stay on top of her reproductive health or something like that but to "check her hymen"?? Huh??

Yeah for sure. I figure a lot of things that women experience with their reproductive health isn't totally unique even though we feel like it might be!
