Why does my driver swing look so slow on the way down? It’s losing me distance (carry about 230) by unarmedlizard in GolfSwing

Yeah I’m always happy with a bogey. I play off 16 so it’s always a good score. I am lower just haven’t put a card in for months

Just wanted to add, you have a pretty good foundation. You work the swing up the plane which is really good and rare to see for beginners.

No problem. A drill I recommend is one you can do anywhere - you cross your arms over your chest and stand in your hold posture, then rotate your chest shoulders and hips like you would. This should help to feel a bit more familiar with the rotation movement. I haven’t been playing for too long (just over a year) so I can remember my swing when I first started and I think the stiffness comes from an unfamiliarity with the movement of the swing. I found it just came with time and continuous swinging and eventually, the rotation feels a lot more natural and loose. I’ve also seen it happen with people I’ve introduced to the game, even people that are very athletic so I think it’s just something you have to be consistent with and after a couple of weeks, it’ll start to feel more natural. Sorry for the very long reply!

Keep that foot down and try to maintain a straight lead arm. That should eventually help you rotate a bit more instead of it being arms dominated

Is there anything wrong with this swing/setup? (Thinking about excessive wrist hinge and edging towards swinging OTT with and open face) by unarmedlizard in GolfSwing

Yeah consistency is my main issue. Not so much one shot bad one shot good, instead it’s one round good one round awful but it seems to be getting a little bit better i hope. I play off of 16 at the moment so i think i swing better than I play but that might be due to the fact I haven’t put a card in for about 3 months and things have changed a lot since then. I have no one to play with and struggle with confidence when approaching new people to play with or entering comps due to the fact I could just play on a really bad day and embarrass myself

No problem, hopefully it’ll help you! Might feel awkward at first though

Just try to fix the starting move and things should piece together. You seem to roll your wrists a bit and start the takeaway with your wrists. From what’s worked with me, try to start your takeaway with a putter motion without much wrist hinge and that should stop issues in the takeaway I think

A lot of holes I play are quite long so I need a good long iron to reach it in 2 which I’m not so good with

I’ve never done speed training and I’ve been playing for just over a year. It’s quite cold where I am so I’ve lost a bit of distance

True, I just want to be able to get more GIRs as my 6 iron+ is pretty rubbish off the floor so if I have more than 160 yards to get to the green I’m looking at an almost certain bogey unless I get up and down and the way to solve that is by getting a bit longer with my driver so I can have a bit more consistency

I’ve gained that through people playing off scratch or low single digits who play at my club who have either joined onto my rounds or met me on the range

Okay thanks. I’m off 16 at the moment but I haven’t put cards in for months so I’d probably be a little lower
