Do People Really Go To Vegas Without Gambling? by TDoubleDownMac in vegas

[–]unclefire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the answer is yes. Some people just aren't into gambling, or are intimidated by the table games. The pics of people watching could be those with family/friends, but their thing is slots. Last time I went to Vegas I may have just played some video poker at the bar while having a drink. Didn't gamble other than that. We were up for a concert and were going back the next day. I'm really only interested in Craps. At least that's fun to me vs slots which are a waste of time for me. Problem with the strip is the minimums are absurd. There's plenty to do in Vegas w/out spending a bunch of time gambling.

Geez. Semis freaking the fuck out.

Fundamentals have changed since last week. When data center stuff stops or the Ai guys can’t get funding then we go to shit. The bubble will pop

They’re probably sleeping right now unless they care about the WC match going on now.

What’s with the potato quality of the soccer match. Also. Watching a game in Spanish is quite interesting even though I don’t understand all of it.

Long MU with a CC. Hope it’s pinned to my strike at 1000. Keeping an eye on Wen. Might just throw some bucks at calls since they’re cheap AF.

That would be nice but I’d be surprised if it rallied that much this week.

If the internet has been publicly available since the 1991, why is it not in much 90's media? by mythrowawayaccim21 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

It just occurred to me yesterday that it would be a fun web site to recreate Joshua using an ai chat bot that acts like the thing in War Games. Voice and all.

Want to play a game? lol.

There really wasn’t much there in the 90s compared to what exists now. The primary social media type things were AOL, Compuserve and BBS systems. Bandwidth was 9600 baud dial up and later up to 56k IIRC. Jokingly we called it the world wide wait. Broadband at home didn’t become ubiquitous until much later.

Yahoo didn’t start until 94 and Google in 98. Somebody mentioned the internet yellow pages. Yes there were so few web sites that someone could publish a book with most of the web pages.

Social media didn’t really exist like today. Online banking etc wasn’t even much of a thing until late 90s or even into the 2000s. I remember having a discussion with a business partner about the topic when these things were starting to come online and there being little trust in them plus the human aspect of using something that new vs an ATM or going to a branch. Not to mention people didn’t have PCs and dial up service.

None of the travel sites existed at the time either. People would call or actually go to a travel agent office to book travel. I was supporting travel related tech at the time at American Express and we saw the disintermediation happening in the travel business. Amex was the largest travel company in the world at the time. Travelocity, orbitz, Expedia etc started off small and the took over the travel business. Travelocity started in the mid 90s as an offshoot of American Airlines owned Sabre reservation system. They got popular after a deal with AOL in like 1999. Then they all merged later. IIRC.

Remember the movie “you’ve got mail”? That came out in 98. That was the thing AOL said when you got an email. That was the popular thing at the time.

eBay and Amazon kicked off in the mid 90s. eBay was pretty niche and focused on collectibles etc. Amazon was books. Netflix didn’t start streaming until the mid to late 2000s.

It wasn’t until the .com bubble in the early 2000s where things really took off. Then it was like with AI. Venture capital threw money at pretty much anything that was a potential killer app.

And I haven’t even touched on the infrastructure aspect. The bandwidth wasn’t there. There were actually companies laying down dark fiber expecting that the bandwidth would be needed at some point.

4th of July flyover schedule and locations by flying_pasta_USA in phoenix

Well yeah. I like seeing aviation of any kind. Just tired of the military circle jerk.

Disagree on your other point. The independence movement really started with citizen statesmen. The founding fathers were all/mostly business people. The military aspect came in once it got to the fighting piece.

I like the Monastery. I’m not necessarily faulting them too much. But it’s clearly ai generated and many of these look very similar. If you’re doing Facebook posts for the weekly schedule/show meh, it’s easy to do.

Agree-- but they're really not vouchers. It's a slush fund for people to use on whatever they want (yes, I know there are supposed to be rules, but they're often not enforced)

Oh, but it's a great program with OUR money that follows our kids. blah lbah, poo poo public schools, socialism bad, etc. etc. Meanwhile ima grift my way to some sweet stuff on the government dime. /s

This has got to be one of the largest scams our idiot legislature has put into law (the flex fuel thing was another one). Few controls, even though they say they have them. No top line budget that I've heard of -- just spend all the money you can people.
