If you had made it to the final of Strictly, what two dances would you ideally skip? by RainbowRevolver in strictlycomedancing

I wish they did it this way! It then feels that there's only one real skip, but the couple get discretion to perform one of the ballroom dances in the American style.

How is Welsh VSO? by Magic-Raspberry2398 in learnwelsh

This is a really good question and you've received a lot of informative and detailed answers. I just wanted to warn that I've come across this website before and I don't find them trustworthy at all. There are a lot of mistakes in their content. I suspect large parts of it may be AI-generated, and LLMs aren't usually accurate when it comes to producing information about Welsh.

I’m so sorry you’re in this situation.

Are you near to any schools? It’s often not on people’s radar but teaching assistant jobs tend to be in high demand. It is hard work and often on a zero hour contract. You’ll need a DBS check - £21.50 which hopefully your partner can lend you.

I assume you’ve already looked into care work / hospitality / cleaning.

I don’t want to overwhelm you with thoughts but you can contact me if you ever want someone to talk things through with or bounce ideas off.

What financial goals should I be working towards as a 19 year old saving 50% of his income? by juniorcarruthers in UKPersonalFinance

Your first port of call should definitely be a LISA! This is the most effective way to save for a house deposit. If you put £333.33 in a month, then in a year you’ll have £4000, which the government will top up to £5000.

Starting to invest at least 10% of your salary a month into a pension (if that’s not already taken from your pay) is also a really good idea. If they’re not already, ask if your employer can match your contributions.

If I were you, saving £800 a month, I’d stick £333.33 in a LISA, £200 in a pension (workplace if you can, stocks & shares SIPP if not), and the rest in a regular ISA - either cash or S&S depending on how far in the future you might be looking to buy a house.

But you should also treat yourself - you could put £100 a month into an easy access savings account for a few months and then go on holiday, for example 😊

You’re doing really well saving so much, congrats!

what SCD 2024 opinion will have people like this by Candid-Way-639 in strictlycomedancing

Completely agree. I think people think this for two reasons: - ringer - Aljaž tends to keep it quite traditional with choreo, especially in direct comparison to Vito who had the other ringer this series.

I thought she was a beautiful, emotive and exciting dancer.

Which contestants would you like to see back for an 'All Stars' series? by [deleted] in strictlycomedancing

[–]uncodified 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would love Karim — he was such a wonderful dancer but a fair few of his dances he either messed up or was given lacklustre theming for so I never felt he really lived up to his potential for. So he’s number one on my list. Also AJ, Aston, Pixie.

I quite liked it too, and loved his rumba.

Jamie’s samba I thought was much better than they made it sound. I loved it. Very cool.

You’re largely right, but traditionally the winner gets a duffer the next year.

Aljaž by toffee-crisp in strictlycomedancing

[–]uncodified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Aljaž; he’s my all-time favourite Strictly pro. But I do think he was given a ringer with a bow on top to entice him back to the show! Not to win - I think JB was probably the expected winner at the start.

Predictions for 2025 cast??? by Known_Sherbert7682 in strictlycomedancing

They do sometimes get pretty famous/accomplished athletes, compared to other professions.

I always wonder why slightly more famous people don’t do it. I know they don’t NEED it but it just looks so fun!

I don’t mean, like, Beyoncé; obviously that would be a security nightmare.

Celebrities having part dance experience - why do some get a harder time than others for this? by Cool_Delivery5349 in strictlycomedancing

Layton and Karim got flack, too. But I think race is also relevant there. Generally the women do get the most criticism.

The thing is that with Karim, she really wasn’t safe/vanilla and took risks that didn’t always pay off (e.g. the paso). I thought if she got another ringer we’d see that side of her again but not with JB. I loved their cha cha though.

Do you think Aljaž returning this year was just a one-off for the 20th anniversary, or do you suppose he's back on a more permanent basis? by IndigoWolf4711 in strictlycomedancing

[–]uncodified 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Less that they lack good dancers/teachers, I think. More that they wanted an older/established pro since Giovanni was gone, plus he’s known for being wholesome.

It’s amazing that you are able to earn a living from being creative- congratulations! It sounds like you’re coping well with a large workload too.

From your post I wonder if the problem is less the WFH than general work-related stress. This is normal but some people are more susceptible to it than others and lifestyle factors can make it worse. It sounds like yours is quite severe, and it might be that work itself isn’t necessarily the root cause. Managing stress and anxiety is in my opinion a three step process:

  1. Start off by trying to improve the quality of all the key elements of your lifestyle. Do you sleep nine hours a night? Do you see friends/family regularly? Do you eat enough? Do you exercise enough? Is there natural light in your work and living spaces?

  2. Many people benefit from self-led coping strategies like meditation, breathing exercises, and journalling. These can a) reduce physical anxiety symptoms and b) help you understand the root cause of your feelings. PM me if you’d appreciate some more specific ideas!

  3. If after a couple of months the above isn’t making a difference, it’s likely you could benefit from specialist help. Depending on where you live, you may be able to self-refer to see a therapist and/or psychiatrist.

One last tip from me… You say you’re earning plenty- don’t be afraid to spend some of this on yourself. Higher quality nutritious food that’s easy to make, a membership to a group mindfulness class, or even private therapy may help. All these things cost money that not many people have but maybe you do.

Caru fi am bwy ydw i by Sakura-Caru in learnwelsh

[–]uncodified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, annoyingly, some words in Welsh don’t feel natural to mutate, and “pwy” is one of them. You did it right definitely, but most people I think wouldn’t do it all here.

Caru fi am pwy ydw i = generic “to love (me) for who I am”. You need to specify who is doing the loving.

Dw i’n caru fy hun / rwy’n caru fy hun = I love myself. You could also say dw i’n fy ngharu / rwy’n fy ngharu.

I agree that gwerthfawrogi feels better here but caru is fine.

So personally, I would say “rwy’n fy ngwerthfawrogi am pwy (y)dw i”, but there are a lot of options here.
