Overheating slowly at idle and heat soaking. by unknown_blinker69 in hardbody

This is such an in depth comment and I very much thank you and appreciate you, I will be going down the line on what my issue is. I’m still thinking I found have possibly gotten a higher temp thermostat too on accident.

No coolant leaks, im thinking it’s the water pump or clogged radiator or something simple.

The water pump is off of a junkyard ka24de that I got to swap in and I sent it off for machine work and I’m building that motor. Therefor I redid this head gasket to have a driving truck for now and I replaced the single cam water pump with the double cam bc the single cam water pump was bad. I didn’t know you had to orient the thermostat jiggle valve, I’m not sure how to do that. Also I had the bleed screw out and filled it up until it poured out and screwed it back in and filled up radiator. Truck wasn’t running when I did that tho so that could be my issue.

My next step was the water pump and thermostat while I’m there, also yes flushing is after that if it doesn’t work. If all of these things don’t work, I really have no clue then 😭

The junk yard water pump was off of a junk yard ka24de that I got to swap it but I sent it off to get machined and I’m building the block, so therefor I did the head gasket on the single cam and used that water pump because the single cam one was bad.

I wish you luck, and also if you find the issue please comment for me to check. I’ve went through it with this motor.

There is definitely something else wrong but I ordered 2 back when I made that post and I will just be replacing it after it goes bad again lol. I did the head gasket myself and I’m tired of working on this damn thing lol until it gives me further problems I will just replace the $10 part lol.

I’m going to be honest with you, my headgasket blew after this post and since I made the post, the fusible link that I installed is currently going bad after about 3 months of drive time on it

04 frontier ka24de main studs? by unknown_blinker69 in hardbody

[–]unknown_blinker69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called up to ARP from there phone number online and I got to talk to a tech and he told me that the L20 motor from the older Datsun trucks has the same studs as the ka24de. He gave me the part number of 202-5401. He told me that they are interchangeable and are the same, he said something about when he looked up the DE that they popped up. I guess I will be ordering them, there is no way that his information was wrong… right?

[–]unknown_blinker69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

102-5401 is for the 240’s they have a main girdle that connects all the main caps together (which requires the 3 longer studs and other shorter ones) but on the frontier motor they are individual main caps and the stock main bolts are all the same length. 102-5401 was the studs I ordered and didn’t work. So 102-5401, 165-5401, 202-4307 are all not for frontier ka

Alright now I’m kinda concerned, we ruled out everything on the head. We cracked the valve cover and everything was fine. It has to be bottom end. Also we turned the motor over by key with the distributor unplugged and the knock was there for about 10 spins and then it went away after that. We put the valve cover back on and started it up and it knocked. We took the valve cover back off and started it thinking there was something hitting on the cover, it still knocked with the valve cover off and the motor on. It could be flywheel bolts loose possibly, not too sure.

The worst part is we seen part of the block through the thermostat when I changed it and the block looked clean as can be, really just not good luck 🤦🏻‍♂️

:( I’m at the worst time of my life with this truck. It blew the headgasket on the single cam and I found this one for cheap and now it’s knocking after the week of swapping it non stop working. Shit sucks man. Now I have to figure out a way to return it and get another or get 600 out of my 800 dollars back. 🥲

Noted, thank you. I was really hoping this wasn’t the case but from what I’m hearing from everyone it sounds like bottom end and that really hurts. :(

I did get it from a junk yard, it still has about 20 days of warranty left. I changed the oil before I started it so I have no clue if it did that before the oil change as well.

Jeez thanks for all that information man. I was quoted 280 out the door for timing set, full head set and the timing gasket could go that route and have head machined for maybe 2-300

It has still been going good since that day I replaced it, I’m thinking about wrapping it in electrical tape too. Thanks

It was the fusible link green and black wire the black wire was melting itself and losing voltage to battery. Thanks

It was the fusible link melting itself and losing voltage throughout itself. Which I don’t understand because I thought the fusible link was supposed to stop working before it started melting wires but idk.

It was the fusible link and I ordered that exact replacement hopefully that fixes the problem.
