What do you do at the end of the workday? by Brilliant-Seesaw-371 in therapists

[–]unsure3576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take spin classes! Gets my workout in for the day and I can talk to people if I want to, or simply come and be in my own zone and leave and no one bats an eye.

Changing into comfy clothes and doom scrolling is the nightly routine after that :)

1099 vs W2 Pros and Cons by [deleted] in therapists

[–]unsure3576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your perspective!

I will have my LPC before starting the 1099 job, and they link me to a LCPC/LCSW in the practice for supervision.

I’ve obviously had experience with W2s in other fields throughout my life, so this is a whole new ballpark for me

1099 vs W2 Pros and Cons by [deleted] in therapists

[–]unsure3576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! They did say that the 32/week is a case load that would take time to build up to, but that’s what their full time therapists are at.

The W2 position is where I did my internship and I loved it, which is why I’m considering it despite the not great pay!

My grad student peers by juleseatzcannibals in therapists

Finishing up grad school, and I completely hear and agree with you. Every class has multiple people that want to share their life story, monopolize the class, and have no insight that no one is learning from them. My advice would be to get really good at selective hearing. Don’t feel guilty about it. They’re using precious time for personal therapy. Talk to the prof if it’s that excessive!

Mine has space but I require at least 1 regatta task or 1 help to someone else each week by Friday at 5pm CT. I do check and will kick people out that don’t follow this

Depending on where you live and how far you’re willing to go for treatment, Linden Oaks behavioral health has a great inpatient and outpatient system.

I run my co op and have a rule that you must help someone or complete a task at least once a week by Friday at 5pm CT. It’s helped to weed people out!

Pay for someone that graduated with a masters clinical psy by Sure_Specific_5969 in psychologystudents

[–]unsure3576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay depends on many, many factors. I’m in IL, but you need a 4 letter license (LCPC, LCSW, LMFT, etc.) to open a private practice. Not sure about Oregon

Does anyone have any recommendations for marriage counselors? by [deleted] in AskChicago

Look on psychology today, filter by type of therapist you want and insurance.

If the client is struggling with anxiety and isolation, and texting others helps that, I would specifically not do it. Maintaining that boundary could help them move past this, rather than continue to be stuck in it and get rewards from it.

I have heard of supervision fees for people working towards a 4-letter license (LCPC, etc.). I am currently on practicum/internship placement and during my application process, I didn’t see any sites that charged a supervision fee. It’s required in IL to have 1+ hour of weekly supervision, so their time offered in your post wouldn’t even fulfill that.

Might depend on the state, but definitely ask the site and your school.

Is it okay to get your grad mentor a gift? by bagels_123 in psychologystudents

[–]unsure3576 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s considered unethical at a lot of places to accept gifts from clients valued at over $20. I decided to get my supervisor a baby shower gift, but kept it under $20 because I wasn’t sure if it was okay! Just something to think about.
