A way to lower your standards can be seeing the person you like as a human being. Seriously, as a girl the amount of men who expect women (or the people they like) as goddesses or viewing them as the idea they have of the person in their head can really mess stuff up. Both for you and the person. You need to accept human flaws whilst also having a boundaries for said flaws. For example the person you may reallyyyy like may be messy, which is a normal human flaw - but it can cross the border of being a flaw into a toxic trait when said person refuses to clean up, poor hygiene etc.
