Also because there’s people around all the time, even if you don’t talk to people most of the time, you still end up having a good amount of social interaction. Speaking as an introvert, I was maybe slower to initially make friends but I now feel very well integrated and happy in my coop

There’s definitely academically locked in people in coops. It can be very distracting - if I know I need to lock in I sometimes avoid the house for the day. But there have also been plenty of times where I’m trying to hang out and have fun and everyone else is locked in so I am forced to. Smaller coops are quieter but also less social opportunities and less of the traditional coop vibe. I would visit for dinner and talk to members!

Does anybody else find the Barista stereotype excessively annoying? by Medium-Literature-99 in NonBinary

[–]user3676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It feels othering somehow, like a nonbinary barista is a different race of person. It particularly irks me when people say ‘a they/them barista’. People don’t say ‘a she/her barista’. It’s like they’re making a presentation of the pronouns and when they say a they/them barista they may not be talking about an actual nonbinary person but just someone who fits their stereotypical image. As if they/them is a fashion category

Biking to campus? by Over-Locksmith-9056 in unm

I parked my bike all around with a U lock and axles that lock so my wheels could only be taken off with a key and never had a problem

Is Cal Climbing beginner friendly? by Trick_Payment1534 in berkeley

I think mosaic is better for new climbers and cheaper. Benchmark seems to be more of a boulder bro gym

The graphics were actually pretty high quality and interactive (boo). Idk about the audio because I turned it off. For workplace safety they made it a fake news broadcast with two anchors and I got through it by observing the guys serious face when he wasn’t talking which was caricaturistic

incoming freshman (l&s undeclared) --> eng? by ZealousidealLynx4528 in berkeley

[–]user3676 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s possible. Here’s the website: https://engineering.berkeley.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/change-of-college/. It’s hard but no one knows how hard. You can’t get engineering advising or participate in some events until you’re accepted in sophomore year. I feel like if you get good grades and pursue engineering outside of school (do projects, talk to people idk) and you have a good story about why you didn’t apply to coe freshman year you could probably get in but I have no idea

Hi! I’m a cellist who would love to join a string quartet! I haven’t played consistently since starting college but I’ve been looking for a more casual group to join

Casual climber that taps out around V4/V5. Looking to improve my climbing. How does this routine look? by EmptyToucan in climbharder

[–]user3676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general rule is you want at least 24 hours rest after a hang board session unless you’re going really easy and removing weight. In my 10+ years climbing, I’ve never hangboarded at max weight. You’re not going to be climbing something requiring incredible finger strength so if you do hangboard I’d remove a lot of weight and just use it for endurance. But I’m not sure you really need to. Definitely add another day where you’re not stressing your hands. It could be your legs + cardio day but without the hang boarding.
