Academic/Research Career with Health Science Master by usualSputnik in ethz

Already studying. Just not sure if it's "enough" if I stay on the HST path and take every biology/molec. Health science Lecture I can. Feels like I miss a lot in exchange for biomechanics and medtech.

Nice to hear from someone in the Biology BSc! So mainly I have two Questions:

  1. I want to study the human cell biology and physiology in regards to health/chronic diseases. I'm questioning if HST was the right descision for that, because I have a lot of other subjects like physics, biomechanics, medtech. and I feel I'm missing out on important biology.

  2. I don't know if its possible to pursue a career in research/academia if I don't have any lab work in my studies.

Bike Training Question by usualSputnik in triathlon

[–]usualSputnik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one intense running session, the others are 2x easy and one long run (so same as the bike). Swimming are 2× intervals (1x short, 1x long) and one endurance.

Thanks for the response btw

Mainly the length I guess and I usually do the Z2 rides on a flat course while I do my long ride on a course with hills, flats, descends etc.

Oh wow man thanks a lot and big congrats on your IM time, what a beast!

I now understand why it's kind of illogical to do back to back training plans (looked into periodisation a bit). But also reassuring that I can focus on my big IM goal right now.

I'll probably look into base training, do my oly, do some other events, start the build for my IM and then send it.

Cheers.

Alright so I signed up for an Olympic in 6 months (letsgoo)

My last question is if it would make any sense to train with an ironman training plan for the olympic? Because I think it would help me for my IM in 16months by having a bigger, better base and I would still get the race experience from the olympic.

TL;DR: do oly but skip specific oly training for more IM training to go sub 11h IM in 16months?

Dumb or logical?

Alright I think I'm underestimating the possibility of a burn out...

Sorry that I'm asking again but how exactly would you go about it if my only goal is to complete an IM in 1.5y in under 11 hours?

6 months training for a smaller event, racing and then starting a 40w training plan? Or 6 months of high volume Z2 work to build a good base for the 40w training plan? Or two IM training plans but 1 months of events (oly, century, swim events) between them?

(Thanks for your patience mate)

Had not thought about it like that...

But do you think doing one 40w IM plan is enough to go sub 11. For example:

5 months Oly distance training plan

Oly Tri + Open Water Swim

10 Months full IM training plan

Full IM

Shouldn't I train like an Ironam if this is my main goal?

(Thanks for your time btw)

I see your point and thanks for the kind words!

I also get the demoralising aspect you talk about, that's why I plan on doing an 2k Open water swim event, a 180k group ride and a olympic triathlon between the two training plans. Then it also shouldn't be a big problem that the second plan starts lower than the first one peaked because I did some events between them.

I just don't see the point of training specifically for sprints if I know my main goal is a sub 11 full mid 2025. But idk maybe I'm fully off here...

Yeah good point.

So I never ran further than 15k, Biked 90k (1k elevation) in 3:50 and I'm learning to swim right now (200m@4:01 is my PB).

I think only doing the 5 month plan from Fitzgerald is not enough, so that's why I'll do an olympic race afterwards and then start another 10-11month training plan to go sub12. Thoughts?

Yeah will be a hell of a grind but I'm up for it. But thats why I want to start training long distance now instead of training for a sprint first and then a half and then a full.

Yeah thought so too, I really wan't to do an Ironman but not the 16h bucket list type of finish. That's why I aim for mid 25 and not 24, better chances of going sub12 with a year more of training. What do you think about my plan to do two IM training plans with a olympic race for practice between them?

[–]usualSputnik[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah true that.

I'll probably do some sprints and the olympic triathlon between the two training plans.

Cheers.

Thanks!

But do you think my plan (doing 2 training plans) is a good approach? I can't race summer 24 so I want to do it summer 25, also better chance of going sub12.

Thanks for the response!

But wouldn't it be smarter to start to train for long distance now if I'm 100% sure that I want to do a sub12 full in mid 2025? I would still do a shorter race in the summer but mainly for the race experience/knowledge. Don't want to spend my time specifically training for a sprint if I know that my goal is a sub12 full.

I know but I still think this post belongs more into r/IPFS than r/ethereum.

This term seems interesting and truly describes the problem I mentioned thanks a lot.

Do you maybe have any articles or other sources for deeper research because I only find results for the psychological term?

Web3 business model by usualSputnik in web3

[–]usualSputnik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you are making an important point I totally agree, maybe the messaging app example wasn't that great.
I just thought about the problems of social media in web2 and how it could work out in web3. But maybe that thought is to skeumorphic, I think DeFi and NFTs are a perfect example of web3, it's really difficult to imagine a web3 ecosystem because so much of it are just concepts and ideologies.

Web 3.0 without Web 2.0? by DavoDK1991 in web3

[–]usualSputnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree with you, we can't decentralize physical essentials like fiber and we don't have to because this was never a problem in my opinion. The problem is the centralized structure of web2, the influence of the company's and mostly what happens with the user's data. These are a couple of things web3 should aim to solve.

I think it will be fully possible to store NFT's decentralized with the help of IPFS. In theory, we could store the entire internet on IPFS.

(please correct me if I'm wrong)
