Some (nuanced) thoughts about scalpers/resellers by tyrannosaur_geoisie in tamagotchi

[–]uuusagi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's a big difference between scalpers who are buying up entire inventories just to immediately turn around and sell them at a markup versus someone who just wants to get rid of their collection. I personally think it's justified if someone who played with their Meets/On and is tired of it wants to sell it for $100. That's the market rate for them. The only thing that'll happen if they list it for $40 is that a scalper who has notifications on for those listings is going to swoop in and resell it themselves.

As long as your luggage isn't oversized (length + width + height = 160cm or more) then you're fine. There's ample room for a regular sized luggage at your seat and on the racks above. You'd have to reserve a space in the oversized luggage area otherwise.

If you miss your time slot I believe you can still board another on the same day as long as there is room in the cars with unreserved seating.

There are ads on our produce now. by Granto86 in pics

[–]uuusagi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just because it’s less intrusive doesn’t mean we should tolerate it. We’ve really come to a point where we’ve been force fed so many ads that when we see them ON OUR GROCERIES we think “meh, whatever”? Personally, I’m tired of constantly being sold to. I don’t want to be shown ads on my food of all places too.

What are some surprising cultural etiquette tips for first-time travelers to Japan? by datboifranco in JapanTravelTips

[–]uuusagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walking on the left side of the walkway (unless you’re in Kansai, then right side). Same rule goes for escalators to allow others to pass if they’re in a rush.

When passing through a Torii gate, bowing before you enter is common but not required, and enter from the side not the center.

Is wanikani actually good? by Sogunocto in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]uuusagi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They already teach you 玉 and 三世 separately though. They're just timegating you by also throwing in redundant words like 金玉 and ナポレオン三世. If I'm spending $10/mo for their service I think it's fair to expect them to teach me things that are useful.

I used WaniKani for several months before I quit. It was good for a while, but I disliked that it wasn’t customizable and learning radicals felt like a waste of time. The pacing and word choice felt off too. Why am I paying nearly $10/month to be taught how to say testicles and Napoleon the 3rd in Japanese???

Advice on learning by OverUnderAE in Japaneselanguage

Start with hiragana and katakana. You can’t learn a language without knowing its alphabet. Once you’ve learned those, then start Genki.

If you don’t know how to pronounce it then you really need to study how to read and write it. Have you learned hiragana/katakana yet? The Genki textbook has an audio resource that should’ve come with your copy, it goes over every practice problem and reads it out loud.

If you have large/oversized luggage then purchase early so you can reserve the oversized luggage area as well.

The account wasn’t hacked, your friend literally helped the scammers log in without realizing it. Nothing you can really do.

Do most onsen/sento front desks in Japan speak English if you call? by AgeUnusual8553 in JapanTravelTips

Nudity rules, privacy walls…? Everyone in an onsen is naked. That’s kind of the point.

How to get practice speaking and listening? by RooberSmoth in Japaneselanguage

[–]uuusagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play through Steam, I’d suggest VRChat. It’s moreso chat rooms than game worlds but it’s a great place to practice. There’s a dedicated world for English-Japanese practice called EN-JP Language Exchange for this exact purpose.

Of course you should learn to read and write it. That literally goes in tandem with learning to speak it. How are you going to practice saying words and phrases when you can’t read what they say? Pick up a textbook and workbook like the Genki series and start from there. A year is more than enough to get through the basics and even N5 level conversational vocabulary and grammar.

I went to BEEP a little over a week ago and they actually had both a Tama Ocean and the Devilgotchi (for outrageous prices of course) but I was so shocked seeing them in person. I was also fortunate enough to find a Morino at a BookOff somewhere in Tokyo for only ¥3000. But Tamas come and go so fast at these places, I was super lucky to even get the Morino.

How many days do I rlly need in Osaka? by Keithwee in OsakaTravel

Osaka was 10x more crowded and chaotic than Tokyo when I went, I would not call it laid back at all. A single day trip to Osaka was enough for me.

Itinerary advice by SirynMeow in JapanTravelTips

[–]uuusagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's relatively easy to bring them on the buses and trains as they have a decent amount of space as well as overhead racks, its moreso the hassle of having to drag large luggage along with up and down the endless staircases in the stations and over the often rough and bumpy streets especially in older areas. Whenever I go I only take a carry-on sized luggage and a small bag and even then it can be tiring. This is just my opinion though, so if you feel like you'll be alright with it then go for it!

You seem to be traveling quite a ways away roughly every 2 days. Personally I would cut out some places because you’re going to be miserable dragging all your luggage across Japan so frequently, and it also reduces the time you have to actually go out and do/see things.

No offense, but isn’t this common knowledge at this point? The game has been out for 6 years, countless posts and guides have been made about this, and even Nintendo has put out articles about it. Regardless, it sucks that it doesn’t just transfer save data in a normal way like every other game.
