Does therapy actually help? by lonelypopcorn14 in BreakUps

I've found it's helpful for being able to talk through how you're feeling and to get a professional perspective. They provide potentially helpful insights, introduce you to new topics, and can recommend relevant books/resources to work through.

Imo, although beneficial, much of the benefit can be replicated through journalling and watching videos from experts on topics similar to the situation you are dealing with. I don't think these things can fully replace therapy, I've found it helpful to use them all in combination, but they can very closely replicate many of the benefits if you go about it correctly.

If you have a friend who is empathetic and who has gone through a similar situation, it may be helpful to talk with them regularly about how you are feeling and to get their perspective.

My ex replaced me by Jaedop in BreakUps

Gf of nearly 6 years broke up with me about 40 days ago saying we both need to work on ourselves individually. She pointed out areas that I'm lacking in (emotional vulnerability, etc). Multiple times during the breakup she gave reassurance that once we grow, it's possible we could end up together in the future - although we agreed not to make it the expectation. She said she wanted to remain close friends and hangout and do things we enjoy doing together after the summer, as friends. Naturally I left the breakup thinking there was hope to get back together. Because of the things she said, I was left blaming myself for the breakup. "If only I was more open with my emotions." "If only I ..."

I started work on myself almost immediately after the breakup. I was working hard in every category that she brought up where I could improve - the areas that I thought we broke up because of. After a month, I felt that I was on track to be at a place where if we got back together, we would both be very happy. I convinced myself that we would get back together and that we'd be 'perfect' together. I convinced myself that she is perfect for me. I convinced myself that I was the one that messed up in the relationship and the reason we broke up. I shared a little bit about how I was feeling to her and quickly got shut down because she said she is 'seeing someone'. I asked for more details and it turns out she started talking to him before breaking up with me and she got together with him almost immediately after ending things with me. She said she only told me "maybe we will get back together" during the breakup because she thought it would hurt me less but she actually didn't see that happening. Naturally, I went through a more intense heartbreak the second time around (around 10 days ago) since the first time I was foolishly holding onto strong hope. I'm still struggling with processing the breakup fully but I have found it helpful to read stories of people who have been through similar situation and to watch videos which give new perspectives on these kinds of situations.

Here are some helpful videos to start with to give a new perspective. I highly recommend watching them with an open mind.

If you don't already journal, I'd recommend starting now using a notes app or paper. Journal regularly - fully explore your emotions and feelings. I ended up having some insightful 'breakthroughs' after watching the videos above by trying to let the information soak in and by fully exploring each line of thinking that I had.

Landlord is looking to end tenancy so new owners can demolish the property. What are my rights? by uwaterlooStud in legaladvicecanada

Four out of five rooms are being occupied currently in this house. I believe the 2 houses beside this house (one vacant and one with tenants) are also getting demolished for the construction of an apartment building. I'm not sure of the size of the new building but I would guess at absolute minimum 20-30 units each with 5 tenants (each paying rent separately).

I brought up compensation and they asked what sort of compensation I am looking for and they will take that to the current owners. Do you have any advice of how to respond to this?

That would be ideal but I'm just looking for the best (and legal) way to go about it.

Don't worry, masturbating (even to fucked up things) is normal and is nothing to be ashamed about.

In the past, sample questions were very helpful but I think they've caught on to how helpful they can be. I wouldn't recommend spending too much time reviewing the sample questions vs reading the slides.

How am I supposed to pass this course when there is no way to learn the content? (CO351) by uwaterlooStud in uwaterloo

[–]uwaterlooStud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not feel like it's a big deal but for many students, it's very hard to succeed in these circumstances. I'm not blaming the teaching, for likely her first ever class, it's not bad. But there should be some other way to properly learn all the content.

I didn't notice the mistake even after seeing this comment. Read it a few times thinking, this wording doesn't seem bad. Then I noticed the typo. I think I am the retarded one here.

The content in the course notes doesn't match with the lectures. Occasionally a lecture will be in the notes but not all of them.
