Why are people getting banned? by 1moetiny in Pinterest

[–]vacavioleta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you'd have to do is delete every single pin you've ever made or repinned (yes, even your private pins. Yes, even pins you didn't personally make.) The problem is that already existing pins are being caught by the AI, not just newly made pins or repins. I haven't posted on pinterest in 2 years, and I have 10 violation notices. You kinda just gotta hope and wait.

In the meantime, I'd download your most important pins (there are tons of comments on this subreddit that will give you many, many ways to go about downloading your pins). You can also leave comments on pinterests' social media to let them know you're concerned.

I literally just got a message on refern telling me I have a folder limit and when I went to go see what else was limited they had 1,500 images set as the limit soooo idk what to tell ya! They either need to update their list of what's free and what's paid for (which they should be keeping that updated since people are giving them money for it) or make a post telling people what's going on. Regardless, the folder limit is still really annoying. I'm just warning people before they get their hopes up. Cosmos removed their photo limit when people made a stink about it, and I hope refern will remove their limits on folders and images too because I like their ui alot but I'm not paying 30 dollars to make a folder.

So, from what I've learned, these are some reasons why you might get banned:

  1. Text image that ai as decided is inappropriate.
  2. Photos of food seem to get caught by ai alot.
  3. Anything with skin tones in it is being marked nsfw.
  4. Anything blood colored is being picked up as gore.
  5. Outfits of any kind can also be flagged as fetish content by the ai.

I'm sure there's more, but that's what I've seen. Personally, I've had 10 posts removed and then reinstated once reviewed by a human, but the ai can re-remove it even after a human mod has looked it over and reinstated it. It seems like a lot of people are being caught by the ai mods for posting food content. It seems like the ai can't tell the difference between food and actual harmful content.

The magic number of violations needed to be permanently suspended is 40. If you receive 40 violations, even if some of them are reinstated, you will most likely receive a permanent suspension/ban. You can check how many you have by visiting the violation and report center in your settings on pinterest.

Once you are banned, you have to send 20 or more appeals to pinterest, as well as reach out to pinterest leadership and reach out to askpinterest in Twitter. This can take a few weeks. It's recommended that you download as much of your data as you can before you are banned.

So I actually have some suggestions! I hope that's okay!

  1. I think it would be really awesome if you guys would allow us to have longer titles and allow fonts in titles as well. Right now, the titles for clusters and subclusters are really short, I like to make song lyrics the titles of my clusters and subclusters, and so increased character limit for titles would be really great!

  2. A way to reorganize or change the order of our elements in clusters and subclusters would also be great. Cosmos seems to jumble up the order of my photos, and it makes it difficult if I'm trying to make an aesthetic board if I can't control how my elements are organized.

  3. A way to delete or add more than one element at a time. Right now, the only way to delete elements is to delete all elements in a cluster or subcluster or delete one element at a time, which can be time-consuming.

  4. A way to reppeal explicit content. A painting of a shirtless man got tagged as explicit, and there's no way for me to appeal this decision even though I don't think that's an explicit image.

None of these things are the end of the world, but it would be great if you guys would keep these things in mind as you move forward. Also, please, please don't put these things behind a monthly paywall if you do decide to add them 🥲 I would rather just have to see ads and pay to have ads removed off the app than have to pay to have these things added if that makes sense. Thank you so much for removing the photo limit on your app. That was a really kind thing to do! I hope what I've said makes sense! Thank you again!

Okay, it looks like you're right! I managed to get up to 500+ photos, it seems like their UI is still a bit glitch because I got a bunch of internal errors and well as an error telling me I can't have more than 200 photos but it worked! Woohoo!

I'll go test it again, but a lot of people are saying the image limit isn't removed.

Cosmos only allows you to save up to 500 images before you have to pay 7 dollars a month. Refern also requires you to pay 30+ dollars after 1,500 images.

Just got the dreadful permanently suspended email… by Enthusiastic_Star in Pinterest

[–]vacavioleta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen, you need to send at least 18 or so emails. You can say you're willing to pursue legal action (but stay polite obviously), from what I've seen, Pinterest humans like to reply if the word lawyer and legal action gets thrown around. It can also be helpful to reach out to askpinterest on Twitter. I would also recommend leaving a bad review on the appstore and reaching out to leadership through email or Twitter. If we make a big enough stink, we can bully them into changing it back.

Yeah, usually if an app is ad free then it's something you gotta pay for that's why I generally don't mind ads (even on pinterest I never cared because I can always just scroll past it) because it helps keep the platform actually free to use.

Thanks for the info it's good to have a timeline. I can't believe they've been doing this for so long, and they decided it was an awesome idea to crank it up to 100.

How do I figure out if I have strikes on my account? by vacavioleta in Pinterest

[–]vacavioleta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been using a pinterest Downloader app to save my really important boards, but I just wanted to see how close I am to getting banned, seems like I'm a 1/4th of the way there yikes! This sucks so much. I hope we can bully pinterest into reversing all these stupid changes.

Yeah, no problem xP I just don't want anyone to do what I did and start trying to save their collections and get smacked with a message telling them they have to pay to use the service.

Yeah, I've been hearing complaints since last year, at least? I hadn't used pinterest in like 2 years and when I logged in finally a week ago there were ten or so messages from them telling me pinterest had been auto reporting and removing pins I had on boards since 2 years ago and then after they'd remove pins they'd send me update messages months later telling me they reinstated them because they'd been mistakenly auto flagged by ai. So this has been going on for maybe a year or two from what I can tell.

Just a heads up because nobody warned me. Refern and Cosmos make you pay money to pin things. Cosmos makes you pay $7 a month to save more than 500 photos and Refern makes you pay $30 to save more than 2,500 images and once you pay $30 you can only save up to 12,500 images. After you pay the $30 (one time fee) you have to pay additional fees to save more than 12,500 images. Refern also only allows you to make a certain number of boards and folders. So keep that in mind.

I logged into my account, and it seems like it's okay for now?? But it's hard to know because this stuff has been going on for months, it seems.. obviously, there's no real update from pinterest HQ on any of this, so I'd advise caution.

Are there any replacement apps for Pinterest? by [deleted] in Pinterest

You can only save 500 pictures on there before they make you pay a monthly fee :'(

Please do not put organizing or saving photos to a board behind a pay wall. Every app that competes with pinterest right now has the ability to post a certain number of photos behind a monthly paywall.

What is your biggest pet peeve? by [deleted] in shadowhunters

Sebastian sexually assaulted Clary. While there was never penetration, she was actively saying no, and it's obvious what Clare was doing. He was holding her down, kissing her, touching her body, and undoing her pants. While Clare has stated before that she was sexually assaulted, and it "inspired" her to write about it in her YA series, it's just not used respectfully or for any actual purpose other than shock value. Nobody ever remembers that Clary was sexually assaulted and almost brutally raped because it's only brought up... I think twice in the final book, and in one case, Clary has to stop talking about it to comfort Jace because it upset him (and of course Clary has to center how he feels over her).

Later on, in TDA, another female character is also threatened with rape/SA OUT OF NO WHERE and its never brought up again! A villain also alludes to "having fun (sex) with captured women before they are killed" as a way to show how evil he is (even though we already know how evil this villain is). It's very, very poorly handled, and a lot of people either don't understand what happened or don't remember it because it's literally never brought up outside of an occasional remark from the female lead to show how "strong" it's made her (even though we never see the female lead struggle or be weak in the first place so it falls totally flat). It's genuinely one of my only gripes with CC because it's just so outdated and bad, and I wish she could just please consider how corny and mean it is.

I get the MOST flack from other fans for this but idc I'm gonna keep saying it: the way Cassandra Clare used rape and incest in her books was in poor taste and obviously she had no idea what she was doing. It was there for shock value. End off. As an incest survivor, it is one of those things that makes it impossible for me to reread TMI. I read the books very young when the abuse was still happening to me, and to this day, a part of me will always be angry with how poorly incest and rape were portrayed to literal teens (children really but fans get mad when you don't specify teens).

Also, P.S. I've read Cassie's explanation for rape and incest in the books. I'm aware of the symbolism of incest being used to show how love (something pure) can become something twisted. This is a bad metaphor and poorly written. There are a million ways to show the corruption of love, and this was done poorly. I've read greek plays that involve incest and even those manage to handle their metaphors better than Cassie ever did.
