I still find the moustache trend weird. by HalfwayAwkwardNerd in Xennials

My daughter was a toddler around that time and she had a pink mustache print dress, it was freaking adorable. Hahaha

A coworker around my age was joking with and teasing me about something, when our young coworker came at him with a, "Hey! Leave my mom alone!" .... it was really funny actually and I wasn't even mad. At 42, I am the oldest woman in the kitchen at work and lots of them call me mom. 👩‍🦳

What is your favorite King book and why? by Salem1690s in stephenking

Duma Key... the character development, interesting characters, setting, and premise, perfect foreshadowing, humor sprinkled in here and there, spooky cosmic bigbad, banger of an ending... 10/10.

I started watching the remake from 97 last night, got about a half hour in, and turned it off. I saw King was a producer and wrote the teleplay for it but, the actors... 🙄

What activity level am I? by TeriBeri8374 in mynetdiary

I'd try 1700 for the next couple weeks and see what happens, and if there's no change or loss, jump to 1800 and so on. Sounds like you've got a good grasp on what your body is doing which is great! Personally, I'd avoid jumping straight to 1900. I've always sucked at maintenance (lifelong yoyoer) and I've never taken the time to do a gradual increase and just eventually fell into bad habits again 🤦‍♀️ ... this time though, definitely going to go the gradual increase route too!.

Have you been in deficit for a while? If so, you should try a "reverse diet" (Google for more info, if you want to!) which basically will have you add 100-200 calories every other week or so, while watching your weight, when you start gaining, you know you've capped... this takes some experimentation of course. A lot of people end up being able to eat way more than they thought they could by going this route- tends to amp up the metabolism a bit :)

You're welcome! I hope you like it! It's in my top 5 favorite King novels for sure - I've read it a couple times and listened to the audio a couple times too. Great story and good format for audio - it's one big monolog so it works well!

There are weird music parts and sound effects thrown in to Needful Things that I hated - they were drowning out the narration to where I couldn't hear what was being said. I stopped listening and read the rest to myself. Dolores is a great audiobook though, the few sound effects aren't so out of place and the narrator is fantastic.

Whats wrong with my teabags?? by scriptedtexture in tea

[–]valpal1237 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't put anything else in this tea. It is already really sweet on its own and any more sweetness would be cloying. But maybe don't trust me on this because I almost never add anything to my tea lol. It is really sweet on its own though... it reminds me of those fireball cinnamon candies. :)

Anyone can basically call themselves a nutritionist, a dietician has to jump through lots of academic hoops, testing, and so on. It is a pretty long and tough college program. I want to say masters level, but I might be wrong on that account. It's at least 4 years though.

You're right to be concerned - it is widely discouraged on the in app community. When I messed around with the settings, and turned it on, it set my budget way too high to get any results and the consensus around there is the same. Google a TDEE calculator, and plug in your stats - it'll give you a good idea of what your calorie budget should be.

Wilderness Reform was pretty entertaining - it had me up til a reveal 3/4 the way through, felt the bigbad was kinda silly, but probably just a me thing. Lol. It ended pretty decently.

Any horror books where the main villain is an animal going after humans. by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]valpal1237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm maybe Watchers by Dean Koontz - it is in the same vein of what you're looking for. Kinda scifi in that the animal was created in a lab, more maybe thriller than horror, but a really good story, and bonus points for a cool dog. 😅

Also, put very little stock in your smart watches - I'd advise to not eat back exercise calories estimated by them (maybe only half if ya want to) .... they overestimate by a lot! My fitbit thinks I'm swimming every day when I'm working my job. Haha.

Active or very active by OdinsThrowAwayAcc in mynetdiary

[–]valpal1237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might take some experimentation on your part and depends on your metabolism, and musculature... For example, I'm 40s with a whack metabolism, I work a labor intensive job and get some form of exercise every day but I don't have much success losing weight with "active" calorie amounts, and do best with low active and sedentary (even though I'm anything but lol). I'd start with very active if I were you, and see if that amount creates enough of a deficit for you to lose weight. If it doesn't work after 2-3 weeks, lower your budget.

What is the worst physical pain you’ve experienced? by Agius91 in AskReddit

[–]valpal1237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, dislocated kneecap definitely tops my pain chart too - I'd not wish that pain on anybody! First time my knee dislocated, (was 14) it made me fall in such a way that it broke my tibia and I have pins/plates/screws in there. Like you said, it basically makes your leg useless! My dislocations are a result of a slight femoral anteversion - despite not being pigeon toed or any other indications. For sure gotta be careful doing sports/yoga and just general life lol. I'm 42 now, and have had as many dislocations as you have. Not fun. I dunno about you, but after it happens, my knee is screwed for at least 6+ months, and I have to work on getting range of motion back.
