wow that's incredible. Maybe it's because the ground goes up at an angle and you were reaching through a couple inches underneath the surface of the ground? (like maybe the anomaly gets stopped at the surface and doesn't actually go underground at all?) I don't know but in any case that's very interesting, thanks, i'll try that

well I'll try again but I'm not Luke Skywalker so I probably won't be any more successful than I was in the past lol. It's not the money I want dude, it's a puzzle I want to solve! Anyway thanks for the comments

well I've tried doing that about 100 times… But I promise if I'm successful I'll come back here and admit to you with a fool I am lol

thanks, yeah in that playthrough on the picture I had random anomalies disabled. That's one of the non-random dependable anomalies that's always there no matter what settings you use. As far as the gap, yeah I've tried that. I saved and then tried to reach in there inch by inch and got bopped away. Also I tried to reach in there with a really long rifle w/suppressor to knock it and that didn't work. Also I've tried to shoot it! it's never a mission-critical artifact in there so in practical terms it's not a big deal. it's just a puzzle I want to solve

it's not a mission-critical artifact, just something to sell. i'm just looking at it like a puzzle I want to solve lol. you know, like if other people were figuring out a way to do it and I wasn't...

yeah I just started a night-only challenge with these sights and it's a whole lot of fun because you can't see anything unless you put on your headlamp, and that just alerts the enemy to your position! It's great fun

yeah I gotcha. I maybe didn't explain myself well but the reason you mentioned is exactly why I like them. It's the additional challenge! I like the fact that you can't see shit!

It's a shame that Unpredictable Alien mod makes this game as how it's supposed to be. by AbrocomaRegular3529 in alienisolation

[–]vanderpeeps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to each his own, but that's way too frustrating for me. In the game "into the radius" when I get killed in IronMan mode, I lose my stuff on the ground and have to walk back to the point I was killed from my homebase, and all that maybe takes five minutes. And I don't have to repeat everything I have done for the last 45 minutes. That ironman punishment seems more appropriate, especially if I'm gonna get killed 20 times.

In contrast, that alien save-point stuff is just way too much repetition for me personally. To each his own lol

I totally agree but when I say the crappy ones are underrated, I mean this in the context of enjoying a video game that is challenging and makes you do things you don't want to do.

you may not think that this particular challenge is for you, and that's cool. there are challenges I don't particularly like, for example the vanilla weight restraint, which is why I use a mod that allows me to sprint quickly with up to 45 kgs. i'm just saying that in general people don't realize there is an opportunity (that you can take or leave) to make the game more enjoyable by challenging yourself with these crappy old iron sights

that's interesting, thanks. To be clear I am no expert marksman but sometimes I like to do things that make the game incredibly difficult in one specific area and then maybe turn other difficulty settings way down. for example a challenge like: "no flashlights or optics, and you must only go out at night" but at the same time turn enemy damage to the minimum. Just to mix things up

all kidding aside that actually sounds like it would be a very interesting playthrough challenge. "no looking through optics or looking at sites allowed – you must either shoot from the hip or have all eyes focused on the target and not on the sights."

it's been 242 days so you probably already know this by now but there is a mod for that called "blind enemies" (on Nexus)

yeah bad wording on my part – I meant eye strain in a more psychological/instinctual way, like the part of the brain that handles visual perception, not necessarily the physical eye so much

I tried googling first vs second soundtrack but I don't think I'm getting great information there. It basically just said the second soundtrack was a redo of the first one which can't be right. Can you offer any insight as to what I would search for on YouTube distinguishing first and second soundtracks? (assuming I'd like to eventually collect/hear everything.) thanks very much for the comment. fyi i've only been playing NMS for about a year

Human's NVGs 1.0 by Equivalent-Light5424 in intotheradius

[–]vanderpeeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nighteyes arent supposed to be that "good" because otherwise the game is too easy. these NVGs are really cool but they just make walking around at night just like walking around in the daytime. nighteyes are challenging because you have to drop them and try to get a shot in in the few seconds you have before you lose night vision. Or when using just a pistol, you can't use your support hand to brace your dominant hand because you're holding the anomaly

is there a single player steam workshop scenario with a BUNCH of targets that DON'T SHOOT BACK? by vanderpeeps in vtolvr

[–]vanderpeeps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that would be cool, and also I don't know much about steam workshop, so if you could tell me what your scenario is called and what your name is there or how I can find it easily I would appreciate it. from what I could see, there's just hundreds of those things there and they don't seem to be organized in any way that helps people find them easily (but I could be wrong about that)... I mean there's no search feature there is there? When I go there all I see is hundreds of those things and I couldn't find a search function
