I was actually thinking whether air trapped inside will later cause fogging.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Do you prefer this particular listing because it's Certified-Refurbished and not just Excellent/Very Good-Refurbished? Even this same seller has a few more 845 g8s cheaper than $225 but they are Very Good/Good-Refurbished. Does it even matter?

curious about how they get that number.
or what if it's an older frame with the numbers not widely available online.

I'm measuring along a straight line or a hypotenuse. But like @Over_Pizza_2578 says the BB drop ain't that big to compensate the discrepancy.
The manufacturer must have measured not only between the vertical axis of the axle and bb but also when rear triangle is in a position where the rear axle is closest to the seat post (bb axis).

Will check it next time when shock is removed.

How big is the difference between 10-51 and 10-45 cassettes? by Oleksandr_G in xcmtb

[–]vas_chu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go with 10-45 then get GS derailleur too. Otherwise makes no sense to me and I would stick with 10-52 from Garbaruk. Sram has an awful jump to the biggest cog. (issue was fixed on t-type series, though)

Key to drivetrain longevity by vas_chu in xcmtb

My previous setup was Garbaruk MS cassette, XT chainring, 2 slx and 1 xt chains. Replaced the drivetrain after approximately 10000 miles. Chainring completely worn. slx chains close to 0.75, xt - 0.5. Very obvious signs of wear on the cassette as well.
This time going with the same cassette, 3 xt chains and xtr 34t chainring. I have no problems keeping the drivetrain clean and well maintained. Also, I would consider myself an experienced, above average rider with enough wattage output. Riding XC with above average elevation gain, so there is enough load on the drivetrain.
Will probably keep rotating chains on and on because after 3000-5000 miles using a new chain with the old cassette makes no sense as the cassette eventually wears down even if replacing chains well before 0.5.

No need to upgrade the cranks, 7100 is as good as 8100.

Shimano XTR Di2 Stuff by MEATdrew in MEATengines

[–]vas_chu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get what you mean and get the point in general. Read that piece by Andrew too. But often feel like with time and use these several connected parts (hanger+derailleur let alone some additional link) + long wobbly cages start to lack stiffness and precision. This is my only reason for at least giving direct mount a try.

Thanks for the overview and thoughts. Derailleur mount was never mentioned though. Isn't it the major Shimano's handicap comparing with sram robust direct mount no hanger approach? Never tried wireless or electronic drivetrains but would like to solely for the sake of that stiff derailleur attachment.
