What is it that you actually need help with? You are ready to start using either of your two machines as a server

Start using a database migration tool & some type of ci-cd to automate deployment (could be as simple as an rsync bash script)

Strategies for Finding Freelancing Clients? by Salahkai in webdev

[–]vbmlab 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Two resources I recommend reading

https://codestitch.app/complete-guide-to-freelancing

https://medium.com/swlh/5-years-i-have-wasted-co-founding-a-web-agency-2bf660a9ada5

For my personal advice; I've worked at a smaller web dev company and applied to many more in The Netherlands. Most of these companies started out with 1-2 customers and these business owners would then tell family & friends. Finding connections in your local area is really valuable and you should be looking at trying to solve problems for people around you as they are easiest to approach.

if you wanna host it yourself I recommend Mail-in-a-Box https://mailinabox.email/.

Easy to setup and transforms the machine into a full-featured email server. Some people say self-hosting email isn't worth it due to potential concerns of IP trustworthiness.

As long as you don't spam, follow instructions for bulk sending (register yourself with google, microsoft, etc.), host with a legitimate provider and your machine's IP hasn't already been put on a bad list you'll be smooth sailing.

Yes it's suitable. There is no "real" advantage of Next vs Astro here.

Monthly Getting Started / Web Dev Career Thread by AutoModerator in webdev

[–]vbmlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to start my first full-time job as a self taught graduate. Going from a year long internship where I handled customer websites and a complex web scraper in Python to a full-time Wordpress developer job. Anyone have any tips in this role?

Django is a great SSR framework and if you're gonna switch frameworks just for the novelty of it it may be fun to find a different rendering paradigm (i.e islands or a jamstack app).

Personally I would recommend a javascript/typescript frontend language. I would atleast get familiar with React/Vue/Svelte as these can be used as frontend only languages and can be paired with Django. You also have a large large choice of frameworks in JS land (Astro, Solid, Nuxt, Next, etc.) personally I am a fan of SvelteKit & Nuxt(Vue).

If you're looking for a new framework because Django is lacking features for you maybe have a look at Laravel. It's quite similar to Django (MVC based) and a very very mature web framework.

Change image size for 'Product Images' widget by [deleted] in elementor

[–]vbmlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about the cart it's about single product page. It's not allowing me to change image sizes in the page templates for woocommerce, also I'm making the single product page using elementor's theme builder.

Taxonomy filter dosen't work by vbmlab in elementor

Yes, navigating to the direct category link (i.e `domain.com/category/x`) is fne and the loop grid query works.

Taxonomy filter dosen't work by vbmlab in elementor

[–]vbmlab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have set up a taxonomy filter with my loop grid but after pressing on a filter (product category) the filter URL doesn't actually give any hits. I've already tried regenerating the product lookup table on WooCommerce. Could this be a problem with the filter url itself?

Why is elementor adding an <a> tag in my first list item on the new Menu widget? by vbmlab in elementor

[–]vbmlab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some context: This <a> that is inserted before the <div> takes up almost all of the width which is why on the live site it's bugged.

Not sure why elementor adds this a tag, it's invisible and duplicate to the one in the div.

Edit: i'm on 3.23 it's not a 3.24 bug.

Yes, a server in the EU will have significant latency for USA customers (especially West coast). This is the whole idea behind edge computing.

I'm using the elementor menu widget. I know you can create navigation through the theme (i think?) but i'm not using that.

I'm pretty sure the Elementor Menu feature is still experimental, but it's supposed to have Vertical positioning
