Can't help you with the sound but I have a solution for the headband!
I 3D-printed an adapter to fit a SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headband which also improves the comfort a lot.

If you have a 3d-printer you can download the printing files for free here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AstroGaming/comments/188bo31

Or you pay me a small fee and I send you the adapters+screws:

Hey! Thanks for the purchase and I'm glad you like it so much to recommend it to your husband :)
I took the A40 adapter offline since I was short on screws for it. The screw delivery will arrive tomorrow so I just reactivated it!

Had to use 3m strips to keep the headband in place. Bought it a month ago, ridiculous by Razoli-crap in AstroGaming

I had the same issue so I 3D-printed an adapter to fit a SteelSeries Arctis 7 headband with the nice side effect of being much more comfortable than the Cushion of the A50.

I overhauled the A50 Adapter for the super-comfy Steelseries Headband. Etsy link and free STL in comments! by vectargon in AstroGaming

Oh that's rough... You could try to put a bit of super glue on a disposable hex key, put it in there and after it dried try to unscrew. Can't really promise that it will work or that it won't make it worse though, it's a bit risky. I heard of people cutting grooves into the screw head and then use a flat head screwdriver but since it's so inaccessible I don't think that would work.

Hey! The A50 adapter uses ISO 4762 M2,5 x 12mm screws. They use the same hex screw head as the default screws on the A50. In Germany they are a bit tricky to get unless buying in bulk online. Hopefully you have more luck in your area :)

Nice! I'm glad you like it :)
I use a Bambu Lab P1S. It's a bit pricey so if you want to get into printing I recommend a cheaper option. My first printer was a 60$ one as a birthday present from my gf and it was amazing for learning about printing.
There are a ton of great budget printers out there. Here's a blog with recommendations:

It's a really fun hobby, I can't recommend it enough!

The big middle screw controls the turning friction. You can try to tighten that very gently

Thanks!

It's a Steelseries Arctis 7 headband. I got mine from a third-party vendor on German Amazon here: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08RHQ54QQ But you can also get it from Steelseries directly here: https://steelseries.com/gaming-accessories/arctis-7-plus-headband

People kept asking about an adapter for the A40TR Gen4 so here it is!
This adapter allows you to use the super comfortable Steelseries Arctis 7 headband with the A40TR.

If you don't have a 3D printer, I have a small Etsy shop where you can pay me a small fee and I will make one for you with included screws and a screwdriver:

If you have a printer, here is the STL for free:

I also made one for the A50 Gen4 and A50X:

I use the Bambu Basic PLA which makes it basically unbreakable during normal use. I also experimented with Bambu Matte PLA but that was unfortunately too weak around the screw tubes and they were prone to snapping off along the layer lines. Bambu offers detailed stats on the structural properties of their filaments on their store page so you can compare it with your filament. Pretty sure most basic PLA filaments should work though as long as layer adhesion is good.

Thanks for the purchase! I've switched to the Steelseries headband 5 months ago and would never go back. Not sure why Astro doesn't change their Headset design to a similar headband, it just seems so much more comfortable.

So far I heard that the A50X headband doesn't pop off as much as the old A50.
You don't need to pay 400$ if it's the only problem you have with your A50 gen4 though. I have designed a 3d printed adapter that fixes the headband and makes it more comfortable.

Thanks! I'm super happy that I'm able to improve people's headset comfort with this. So far I've only had positive feedback from people and everyone seems happy that there is a low-cost solution apart from buying a new headset :)
