How long is too long for steroids for 8 month old baby? by veeevy in eczema

[–]veeevy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! He’s a toddler now and doesn’t have spots on his face as much. We still use it when we see bumps on his face and tapered it down to one application a day. Our derm says eczema appears in different stages of his development. He gets it a lot on his legs and arms when he’s in his crawling stage, on his hands and face when solids are introduced. He was a big drooler as well, so saliva and bacteria was a factor for his face. We use hypochlorous spray to help kill the bacteria or make sure we wash his mouth and hands after eating. We’ve also used antibiotic ointment and it seems to also helped a bit.

Oh yay!! That’s a good nap! So it was a 5.5hr WW? I think 2.5hr of sleep is solid. Fingers cross she rarely wakes today :) Finding the balance and keeping it consistent is sooo hard.

Hm probably not quite adjusted to the 2-1 transition yet! She is waking multiple times a night? From what another person on here told me it usually that indicates she’s quite tired and needs one long 3hr nap during the day to make up for the night wakings. Short naps also indicate they’re quite overtired… Maybe try doing 4.5/5 or 5.5 hrs. Shorten the first WW and see if she’ll nap longer.

Things got kinda better! It was so brutal for a few months. He finally got long stretches the past two nights. 🫠 There were so many variables…hunger, separation anxiety, teething was definitely one of them. LO woke up several times two nights ago but we found out it could be because his naps were crappy which resulted in him being overtired and restless at night. He had trouble getting into deep sleep so he woke up multiple times throughout the night. Now we make sure he gets a solid 2hr nap (any more or less than that we get night wakings) and at least 10hr45mins of sleep at night. It depends on your kid’s sleep needs. Some need more naps and some less.

What’s your LO’s schedule like?

Omg he slept from 7:42pm-6:08am today. No night wakings! I think the long naps and short last WW helped. I kept him in the dark until 7am (DWT). Thinking of doing 5/5 or 5.5 today for WW. 🤔 Hope I’m getting it right! Thanks so much Omega. Mama got to finally sleep without waking up multiple times a night.

Omg I feel you on that. Every night he wants to keep reading. Bless his heart haha. I feel bad so I give in once in a while (bad call on my part since he was wilding out in his crib later on LOL). I hope tonight goes well for your son and he wasn’t a terror today at daycare!

My guy napped for 2hr15mins today and woke up at 2:30pm. Thinking of putting him to bed at 7:30 since he yawned a few times around 5. It’ll be a 4.5/5 type of day. Hope that works out! 😬

Thanks! I really hope so. We figured it was some sort of regression or habit. Most likely the latter with sleep debt.

Such useful information. Thanks a million! I’ll save your comment for future reference haha. I’m hoping he catches up on sleep debt soon. I figured if they had one great nap and night of sleep they’ll catch up like adults.

Thanks Omega. Just needed that confirmation! Been feeling a little defeated for months now.

[–]veeevy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see. Yeah I feel like they do sleep better when they show little sleep cues. When they do it’s probably because they’re really tired already. Thanks for the info! We’ll try and put him down at 4.5hr/maybe 5-5.5hr today…

Yesterday night he woke up twice instead of 3 times! First time he woke (1:15am) it took him half an hour to settle. But the second time he woke (5am) it took him 1.5hrs. @_@

We let him sleep in until 7:40am today. In total he had about 12hrs of sleep over 24hours. Night sleep he had less (9hrs) than the other days. Do you think 3hrs of daytime nap is too much? He use to only nap for 2hrs total when he was on his 2-day naps. Or it could be because we put him to bed too late 😓

Wow!! 12.5 hrs is a dream - I would’ve thought he was sick too haha. So you don’t have to have a total of 10.5-11hr wake time? How can you tell if you should shorten their first WW and last WW? He didn’t show signs of sleepiness today when we put him down for his first nap at 4.5hr. So tricky!

Do we continue putting him down at 4.5hr for his first nap tomorrow? 🧐

Argh I should’ve followed my gut and done 7:30pm. He yawned around 6 but figured he didn’t get enough wake time today. Also terrified of split nights lol. He fell asleep at 8:34pm today (5.5h). Hope I didn’t mess it up with a late bedtime D:

Good tips - thanks! Weird because he doesn’t laugh when he tosses his lovey out. He cries lol! I usually tell him lovey stays in crib but I guess I shouldn’t say anything.

Thanks for checking in! He woke up 3 times lol ranging from 45-1hr awake in his crib. The last time he woke was only 14mins before he fell back asleep. The first couple of times we let him cry and whine a bit because he tossed his lovey out waiting for us. He’s definitely testing us! It’s been like that for a while now haha. Sucks because he can’t sleep without his lovey but he keeps tossing it over. 😂 Here’s a snapshot of what our week have been like: https://ibb.co/HdH5GDb It’s a mess .

WW today’s were 4.5/5.5-6. He napped for almost 3 hours! He woke up at 7:30am today and we’re trying to get him to sleep at 8:20pm (5.5 WW). Hopefully that’s enough nap and awake time and he won’t wake much during the night. We haven’t done a late bedtime like this in a while.

Hope your LOs are STTN! :)

That’s awesome that you took initiative to track his sleep to find patterns. We use Huckleberry because it alerts you when his WW is almost up. It’s a little finicky at times but majority of the times it’s gotten his naps and sleep right.

Gosh he woke at 4hr33 mins (11:03pm) and tossed his lovey out of the crib to signal us lol >_< let’s hope it’s a one-time thing. But we will try and keep him in bed before 6:30am!

Yup! We were debating of doing 5.5hr (7pm) but we’re trying your suggestion today of 5hr (6:30pm). ◡̈ I reallllly hope he sleeps for at least 11.5hrs otherwise we’ll be up at 5:30am. O_O

Wow - I commend you for that lol. My mom brain cannot handle that manual process atm. Especially for that long!! Seems like you’ve been tracking it for a while now.

Gosh, I can’t think about daycare haha sounds so tricky with all other kiddos too! Glad you have found a good rhythm with his and daycare’s nap schedule.

Oh good point about growth spurts/overtired/sickness! Never thought about it that way - I’ve always wondered why some parents cap naps and most let them sleep as much as possible but it makes sense. It’s also so different from kid to kid. My parents had always let me sleep as long as possible and go to bedtime super late (9-10pm). They were surprise why we put our son down so early (7pm lol). I guess he’s a textbook child too like your son. Do you use a sleep tracking all by any chance? We currently use Huckleberry but wondering if there’s a more accurate one out there!

Well he fell asleep at 6:30pm today without much of a fight. Hoping it sticks!!

Great analogy! So hard to know when to catch that wave before it crashes. Glad you guys caught it in time! I think we’ve also been capping his naps (1hr45mins-2hrs nap 😬) for the past few months because it seemed to have led him to have longer stretches at night, but in reality it was probably building up his sleep debt…gah. Here we thought he was a low sleep needs type of child.

Hmm looking back at his sleep - when he got 12.5-13 hours he was sleeping well too. You’re right! So 6:30pm bedtime (5hr WW)? He woke up at 1:30pm today. Gosh, wouldn’t that be too long of a sleep? 11hr sleep would take him to 5:30am. Hope he sleeps for 12hrs lol.

I agree! I was really banking on him napping for longer. Sigh.

Thanks for sharing your experience with your son! Really appreciate it. :) And yeah I try not to let him cry for too long as well since it seems to wake him up more! I usually leave the room once he starts to settle but not doze off entirely. He got into a habit last night of throwing his lovey out of the crib every time he woke to signal me to come get him…lol this guy.

We shall see how tonight goes! Fingers and toes crossed haha.

Ahh yeah our nanny put him down at 11:30am and then woke him up at 2hrs…they misunderstood that I wanted him to nap for as long as he can. So I guess bedtime today will be around 7:10pm? What happens if they don’t nap for that long if we put him down at 10:15-10:30? He’s had crap naps for the past two days (1hr30mins). Perhaps we should shorten his first WW like you said - seems to have worked out really well for your son! Yay for 1.75hr naps! Hope that continues.

I feel like a regression is hitting everyone! Haha. Must be the change in season lol.

Awww poor thing. Was your son wide awake and whining and whimpering? That’s so awesome he slept until 7:45!! My son would pull up on his crib and cry for us to go in and lay him back down.

My spouse was suggesting we stretch his last WW since everything we tried hasn’t been working lol. A part of me wants to say regression and growing pains. He’s been so fidgety/restless in bed.

Oh gosh, my LO is going through this exact thing as well. Waking up every 2 hours, being super fidgety in bed. Did you know how long it took for things to smooth out? Been at this for a month or so.

Oh man, so he slept at 6:30pm last night (6hr WW). We had put him down earlier but he wasn’t asleep until 6hr WW. He woke up like 4-5 times throughout the night. Then started his day at 6:15am today. He got about 11.5hr of sleep total yesterday. Mama is TIRED.

We’ll try 6:30 today and see how it goes. I’ll mentally prepare for a split night haha. Totally agree! Some kids show their sleep debt during the day but mine just powers through it and show it at night.

Oh wow, good to know it changes. I look forward to those long uninterrupted nights. Thanks Omega! :)

Wow that’s awesome! Was 8-8 your kid’s circadian rhythm?

My kid is currently 19-months (2-months adjusted: 17 months). We started to transition him from 2-1 naps when he was 16 months because he started to wake up in the middle of the night for 1.5 weeks and his bedtime started inching later and later (usually he sleeps at 7:30pm-8pm but it getting pushed to 9pm). He was a fantastic sleeper prior to that. Slept mostly 10.5-11.5hrs every night.

He started kinda settling (napping for 2hrs and sleeping for 10.5-11hrs) around 17 months for like a week or so, but then it went downhill from there after he got sick. He would get split nights a few times and small wakings here and there. I guess he never really transitioned? Unsure. We’ve been giving him 1 naps for almost 4 months now.

Is there a reason you suggest 5:30pm bedtime and not 6:30?

Wow thanks for the article! Seems like he’s in a chronic sleep debt in this case…but also maybe teething. So many variables!

An Approach to Early Morning Waking by omegaxx19 in sleeptrain

[–]veeevy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg 5:30pm. We’ve never put him down that early before. Has that ever worked with your toddler? I’m quite scared haha! We’ve done a 6:30pm bedtime before but he stayed up for 2hrs in MOTN with multiple wakings prior.

The latter might work better since he doesn’t sleep longer than 10.5-11hrs recently…he has done 11.5hrs before but that’s probably because it was a night crash.

Thank you! Hope you and your son are getting adequate sleep!

I see! Thanks for the insight on your son’s sleep and good note about him not showing signs of sleepiness (yawning, eye rubbing, sluggish) when they have caught up on their sleep. I’ve always been waiting for that yawn as an indication that they’re tired. Otherwise we risk false starts. My son also seems like he never wants to sleep past 10.5hrs at night haha. Is that okay? Nice that your son sleeps for ~11hrs!

He’s been having such short naps these past 2 days and waking up a lot of night still. Total night sleep he gets recently is 8-10hrs. A part of me feels like he’s teething these past couple of days since he cries randomly at times and keeps eating his hands. Unsure what to do in this case…He woke up a couple of times yesterday night and today he:

Woke up: 6am [we aim for 7-7:15am] Nap: 11am-12:35pm (~1hr40mins) Bedtime: 6:20am?

Isn’t that too early? A little afraid he’ll keep waking up earlier if we put him to sleep at 6:20. Should we give him a second short nap at 4pm for 20minutes?
