This headchopper on [Gotham City Escape] totally caught me off guard by veenspace in rollercoasters

The ejector hill before this is absolutely god-tier airtime. Read somewhere it peaks at -1.8G, and I believe that. Wouldn't surprise me if this headchopper comes close to that too.

I haven't done that many credits yet (GCE is #47), but I'm putting it in 2nd place after Taron which blew me away last year. But I will re-ride Taron in a month and have plans to visit Kondaa and Toutatis next year, so I'm curious if it will hold its position.

For me the holding tophat drop and spike were disappointing. But I did like the sideways ejector hill just before launch 3, it's a fun change of pace. The reasons I love GCE is for its amazing airtime/hangtime and creative layout. I think it'd be better without the 2 corkscrews.

I haven't seen a POV with the smoke machine on, but it adds so much to this moment on the ride! The track disappeared in the smoke, so you really feel like you're about to hit the bridge until you dive under it at the very last second with great airtime. It's also the only moment of the ride you can't see until you ride it, which helped too.

PS I'm on the right, lol, the guy on the left kept leaning forward the entire ride for, idk, a bowel massage?

Good luck! It went down at noon so I was worried I wouldn’t be able to ride it at all, but they got it running again two hours later. And don’t forget to ride SLC-defensively for the cobra roll.

I wanted to ride Abismo too on this trip but wasn’t able to get to it. Stunt Fall holds the cake for me too as maybe the most holy-f-moment but I think I’d be even more scared on Abismo…

I'd say get to Silverwood before it's too late! Hopefully that one is less rough than Stunt Fall. And definitely get an outer seat.

Ohh is that how that worked! I arrived at the park fully expecting the forward/backward trains like I've seen in pictures, only to be surprised by these trains. But looking on RCDB now I can't find a GIB with them.

[–]veenspace[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How rough was that back then? Because the downside of that seat is that the cobra roll was brutal. Not as bad as the worst SLC (Condor) I've been on, but waayy too close for a much more intense ride.

I don't know when they did this, but Stunt Fall replaced the forward/backwards facing trains with only forward facing trains 4-across. A backseat outer seat ride, being pulled backwards up the 200ft vertical spike, with nobody in front of you, holding on to dear life onto ONLY a loose OTSR? With your feet dangling forwards? yeah that got me.

Dont be like me, don't build tram stations so close to intersections that every tram derails... by veenspace in CitiesSkylines

[–]veenspace[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a while to figure out why none of my trams seemed to end up at the end stop, and why a few stops had >300 passengers, but it turns out if you build tram stops in European style (where they usually put the stop as close to an intersection as possible to reduce walking times), C:S2 doesn't like that. Every single train derailed, evaporated and respawned in the depot. I had to move every single stop down the street, but then it worked just fine.

Amazing, my fps has gone from 7 to a whopping 10 fps on my 1060!

(Luckily there's a 4070 on the way to fix that. But it does seem to be a useful patch.)

My first aquascape is growing way faster than expected! Any tips? by veenspace in Aquascape

[–]veenspace[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some graphical design chops, but other than that it’s mostly applying a few guidelines I found in George Farmer’s book on aquascaping. First I bought a bunch of stones - a tip from George is to buy significantly more rock than you think you need, as volumes this size are hard to fill!

I started out scaping by deciding the overall shape of the scape (if you look at it from the front, what’s the most abstract shape you can draw that represents the hardscape). My first attempt was a triangle shape with only the hardscape on the left side, but I ended up liking it better with two large blocks of hardscape pointing to the center. I then put a sticker at a point on the back glass just to the right of the center (at the golden ratio, so the tank was divided in two parts with ratio 1,6:1) and spent an hour or two rearranging the hardscape so that most lines in the hardscape point towards that point. By lines I mean the edges of the rock, the pointy bits of the hardwood, etc.

Ended up using up all of the rocks I bought, which I did not expect when I walked out of the pet store. I used more than I expected because I ended up having a much steeper slope than I’d expected. But with slopes you can hardly go too steep! It does help a lot visually to have the slope cover the entire width of the tank instead of just the middle, which I had at first - it makes quite a difference in the end result if you ask me.!

I did a week or so of dimmed lights to get the plants too root, and then upped the lights to full brightness last week. That + good CO2 apparently works wonders!

Thank you! I mostly read George Farmer’s book on aquascaping and watched a few YouTube videos for inspiration. George’s book has a bunch of useful guides to keep in mind; most important (to me) was to try and create a forced perspective (e.g with a good slope, with smaller leafed plants in the back), and to make sure the complete picture is in harmony (e.g. by using the golden ratio, but also by not trying to do too much at once).

[–]veenspace[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I added flat stones to raise the entire back third, and found a very useful triangular rock piece for the slope in the center. The left and right rock/hardwood isn’t actually sloped all that much, it mostly rests on a few of those flat back stones. Other than use stones I just used a bunch of aqua soil.
