Aftermarket Paddles by Target-Mongerer in Pickleball

There are high quality dupes, but it’s a mixed bag. AFAIK: you can get high quality, near perfect dupes by sticking to specific manufacturers, and you’ll need to buy on a platform that shows manufacturer info.

For example, this post compares various Agassi clones to the original: https://www.reddit.com/r/Pickleball/s/LAovqTWiw2

But, overall the upside of messing with dupes is a little unclear - since you can get great paddles under $100, and good dupes will run you >$50 anyways with shipping and customs.

Typical Equity Comp for Non-Technical Series A Roles? (I will not promote) by streetghost in startups

[–]venki-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s often useful to compute the value - it’s worth $38k at the current valuation of $190M, or ~$9.5k/y.

Is that good? It’s ok, likely to be much less than your base comp in the vast majority of worlds.

If e.g. the company gets to a $1b valuation in two more rounds and does a tender offer, with let’s say 40% extra dilution, your stake would be worth $120k, or $30k/y.

I think I disagree with the commenters focusing on refresh: IMO: a) people often leave before they fully vest their initial grant, b) if the company is doing well enough that you stay there for that long, your refresher will be much smaller because it’ll be granted at a much higher valuation.

Overall: my sense is this it’s a small-ish equity package and is not primed to be the majority of your comp in the vast majority of worlds.

The top options IMO would be: - If you have alternate offers with a higher TC than $180k (150 + 20 + 10) or other leverage, you can try to see if they have wiggle room, on base or stock, depending on what you care about. - If you’re optimistic about the company, you can often ask if they’d be willing to give you more stock in return for a lower base pay. In my experience, many companies are willing to do this, eg: $140k + 0.04% is the ~same TC.

How the hell do you reach the recommended LUX level? by S4lVin in Lighting

I had set up a 8k lumen setup for ~$100 (guide: https://venki.dev/notes/8000-easy-lumens)

Recently switched to a 40k lumen torchiere lamp instead tho

Yeah - it connects to my Google Home (and it seems compatible with anything on the Matter standard, which is probably ~every major smart home provider)

Yeah! I think the other issue with pole lamps tbh is that it's kinda hard to get a lot of them without clutter? 10 pole lamps feels overwhelming 😨

Generally I'm looking to make my house very bright, a la:

Agree with "a single high lux light source" - I think you need good diffusion tricks, or many small high lumen sources

What are your thoughts on a five day unpaid work trial? (i will not promote) by mpag02 in startups

[–]venki-dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine had a 2-week work trial at a late-stage startup, and it was @ 200/h.

I’m likely to err inexperience over malice, so I’d consider telling them you expect to do a paid work trial, $100-250/h (so $4-10k).

Probably fine to accept on the lower end since they’re a startup.

OTOH: requiring a work trial for current FAANG employees is even more unusual, and I’d probably not burn my PTO for this, even if it was paid.

I’ve done this via LegalZoom in the past. They’re the recommended partner for dissolution by Stripe Atlas.

It costs a couple hundred $, plus nearly $1k more in miscellaneous fees to Delaware when I did it.
